3A BlueCross Bowl: CPA vs. Alcoa

Time to get off the bandwagon that schools like Maryville, Alcoa, Milan, CPA, CAK to name a few, have this mysterious advantage over others.

What all these schools have in common, whether public or private, is:

1) great community support. Typically these successful programs have great booster clubs who are very active and supportive.

2) supportive administration. I'm not talking about just "yes" men, but folds who understand the balance of what it takes to be successful on and off the field.

3) very good facilities developed OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME because of SUCESS ON THE FIELD.

4) not only great head coaches, but also, in my opinion just as important, a great set of assistant coaches who KNOW HOW TO COACH FOOTBALL and are not some admin son in law or nephew who has their position because of who they are and not ability.

The last time I checked, none of the above are against TSSSA rules.

LASTLY, great players who are not recruited, but players and families who recognize the above and WANT to be a part of a great program. If the above mentioned items are in place, THE PROGRAM RECRUITS ITSELF!!!

Congrats to all the teams who made the finals, even more so to the teams who are in the finals on a regular basis.

All great and accurate points. I think the issue most MidTn people have with CPA or NCS is that they take alot of the good talent from the area and then beat up those teams with their own kids. If those teams were in DII nobody would care. Its tough to build a good support system if the privates take your best players, put them in a great off season program and then destroy you in a region or playoff game.

In the end theres nothing you can do about it but strap up and play ball. I'll be rooting for an Alcoa blowout. I think they have a great football community and anybody that schedules Maryville every year gets my respect. After watching 3 of CPA's playoff games I don't think they win anyway.

I have been known to state my opinion about the public / private / open zone deal probably way too much over the years. What I am wondering though is, at this point, why does it matter? Not that anyone doesn't have a right to opine about what ever they wish on the T, but with the new TSSAA plan for 2016, isn't the issue (for D1 privates) pretty well decided and separated? I can't imagine any of them doing away with the discount they provide for multi child families, which is what the TSSAA is hanging their hat on. Am I missing something? Isn't this a debate over an issue that has already been decided?

For those that are wondering...Booger showed up at Alcoa. Meeting him face to face is not something I recommend. If you think his posts are hard to read, you should try to talk to him In person. A nice referee had to come up and get him and escort him back to his mother. All kidding aside...it was a pleasure to spend a few minutes with you.

it was emotional...may see yall friday if it can be stomached

Booger just sayin :thumb:

Great! UTC has a pipeline into Alcoa the last 4-5 years. Weatherly is a great player at QB and Corner.

if they could only keep em at UTC...they get em there; but there gone before they get their pads issued...dont no if I would call one player on that roster a pipeline

    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
    • I think they have they coach they want close to being done. I guess we will all see how this plays out. I hope the hire a good one. There are some players in the box for the next coach to work with.
    • Going to grundle Troy Fleming?
    • I agree I don't think it will go to trial either, but I feel like that will be because no judge would deem this to warrant a law suit... If the school board settles, they loose and all coaches and schools loose too.
