What is the value of Spring Practice?

I'm quiet a bit old school as well. I remember before spring football existed. You definately have to have full contact for certain teachable moments. Spring football is not exempt from this, just finite to the bigger picture during that time frame. 10 practices and 2 scrimmages are short time to prepare and play as if in season. Competition internally should far outweigh competition of an opponent in spring.

I would suggest five practices with the fifth beginning a contact practice in spring and no scrimmage first week. A controlled practice with another or multiple schools during the second week would be beneficial. The only true scrimmage I would recommend would be a controlled inner squad or for a smaller school against an opponent .

We did some of this back in my day. We would have controlled scrimmages against 1 or 2 other teams. As a player it was always nice to hit someone with a different name on the jersey.

That's it.Its just good for the kids to stay in the swing of things,we schedule ours for the very last few days that are available to get our Baseball players back and it has worked out fine.The depth statement also rings true.Plus its just nice to see some football before the real season starts.😉 Edited by orngnblk

      I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.

      I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!

      Looks like Trent Noah was released from his NLI at South Carolina with intent to pursue playing closer to home. Kentucky and Louisville both reported to be in the mix for him now.
