Well during the Summertown/ Perry County scrimmage in Linden, there was a scrum. Both guys were jawing and for some odd reason the Viking player punches the Summertown player and the brawl was on. I don't understand why this keeps happening with this program. Since 2012 the Perry County football program has had a reputation of being dirty and undisciplined and during games I've seen it before but I always thought "well both were doing some jawing so no big deal, boys will be boys". Well this will spread around the Region and there are going to be ejections again this year due in part to the players being very undisciplined. I'm a very proud supporter of all Viking athletics and I love football, but I can see why there are only 28 kids out of 362 in the school that want to play. It's a shame of the way this program is going. I hope it gets fixed but it really needs to start NOW. Either get rid of some coaches or give it the death penalty. I'd hate for either one to happen but for all these brawls and ejections that's happened the last few years, something needs to change. By the way, Eagles won 24-12

It falls on the coaches, and I agree it has become a trend and it's going to have to stop before something bad happens. It's just a matter of time until parents and fans get involved.

I did not get all the facts straight. I apologize. It was not a all out brawl it was just the two players. Nothing happened and i should've gotten the facts straight before i put my big mouth out here. Summertown's player threw the first punch but luckily nothing happened and both players were fine. Anyway on a brighter note the Vikings offense looked really well and they moved the ball effectively against a pretty big and stout defense by the Eagles. The Vikings senior running back Curtlen Sparks has really matured and looked like he has gained more speed and explosiveness to his game. He saw a hole and hit it and when he had space he was gone. Also the Quarterback Jeffrey Martin looked good under center after spraining his MCL in camp. He threw a nice 65 yard pass to newcomer Matthew Wood who went behind his body to catch a dart from martin for the TD. The Offensive line looked very good for the Vikings and gave him time to set back and look down field. Hopefully these are things to come for the Vikings. Yes the defense may need tweaking but it's a scrimmage and i believe the first one since spring. Usually early on in the season especially in high school the defense is what needs work for all teams but the Defense did have bright spots as well. Coach Sawyer and the gang look to have a overall better team this year and look to put some points on the board especially with Sparks in the back field.

    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
