So this one is not going to be named until after superintendent? Or, like most small counties, has it been promised to someone already?

I hope that's not the case. None of the four finalists are local. One is an assistant at McGavock, one is assistant at Riverdale one an assistant at Independence and the other former head coach at Moore Co.

I'll go with:

McCurry being the former Moore Co. coach who also coached at the other places previously named.

Jakobik being the assistant coach from McGavock.

Pence being the assistant coach from Independence.

As far as the coach from Riverdale I wouldn't have a clue so I'll guess Bureau.

Howdoitknow I forgot about jakobik. I was thinking white from Indy but I don't know pence so you are probably right. Out of those four you named two carry baggage. Mccurry and the whole mess at MC and Jakobik only staying at CC for what a couple weeks. You know more about that than the rest of us so maybe it's not considered baggage.

At the time is was an awkward time at CCCHS but now the Cubs have the right guy directing their football program and Jakobik landed on his feet. He's been with Gore, Dorris, Moreno, and Hemontolor at McGavock and got a chance to coach football and be successful with some great guys. It worked out great for both parties.

I know White is thrilled at IHS. He just won a state title and his wife is directing the girls basketball program. He will have a great shot at being Indy's next head coach if/when Blade moves on.

I figured you would know a little something about the jakobic CC situation. You are right it worked out for both. You are also right about white. Hope he gets a shot somewhere.

EH is an interesting position. They haven't had much success but I think they could in their region with the right coach. I don't think they will win the region any time soon but they could be competitive.

Al Pelligrino proved that last season at Sycamore. They were by far the most improved team in the region this past season. They were two plays away from a region title. I know that's a cliche but they truly were closer than some would originally suspect.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
