Old Pirate says the Pirates are noticeably bigger, with youth showing signs of improvement. Obvious there is more depth that will produce dividends as each feud commences and the long voyage the Pirate ship is surely to take. The Pirates have the fastest RB in the Valley but the offense has to be able to make teams respect the middle with Soph Raulston. His ability to become a major force will allow Lilly, Pryor & Kelly to find running room on the edge. The improvement shown by QB Holland is two fold, experience is one but the emergence of additional threats at the WR other than Kennemore will cause opposing teams real problems. All said the Pirates are not as good as past teams but are poised to make a their own mark. Point here, Kinfolkes, knows it's coming sooner than any want! Bank on it

SP has, athletes all over field. I MO line play will be key for them. Last couple of years teams that hit hard have given Lilly a problem. Kelly and Raulston key to running game. SP passing game looks like it's going to be very good this year. Think they go 9 and 1. They will have a chance to go deep in playoffs

We have some good ones, but still nothing like the ones we saw during our run between 2007-2013. We also don't have Superman playing for us like Marion had the past two years. First with Zemen and then with Walters.

Whitwell - I was impressed considering they lost that trifecta at the RB position. I agree the Shrum kid looked good. I was impressed with Condra running the ball. If Petty is better than him y'all will do fine.

Bledsoe - miss the RB from last year. Their numbers looked a little down, am I wrong? Line needs to learn to move their feet better or defenses will be in their backfield all night

Grundy - I actually thought they looked improved. Still not great but the coach has them headed in the right direction. Good hire.

LV - one player that could play for anyone in the valley and that was Ragland. Everyone else just terrible.

Silverdale - I thought SD played very good ball. They looked focused and seem they had a plan which it seemed they executed it well. That doesn't mean they are a great team. It just means they played as a team.

SC - the two linebackers are no doubt some of the best in the state, however, not much help from the line IMO. Offensively they seemed to move slow, but executed better than last year. I see this season being very similar to last year...except the first game.

MC - in the backfield they seemed to have the most depth. Rotating 2-3 every other play without missing a beat is well noted. I do think they should stay with the Sampson kid at QB. He will get better by the time he is a senior. The two things I seen as a weakness for them were passing was terrible, and no depth in line play. If any of those front 5 go down with injury, I don't believe they have strong enough replacements. Even if they stay healthy, I believe this years team is not as good as last years. Kirkendoll is one of he best in the state. JMO

SP - improved in all phases. Stronger and faster. This may sound biased, but the truth is they were the best team of the night. Holland / Kennemore connection is one of the best in the state. I just wish on the shorter passed Holland would let off his throw a little and not throw as hard. Our D line was destroying both LV and Whitwell's. They are strong especially Fehr in the middle then Russell and Cawood on each side of him. Sequatchie won't run on us.

    • And that needs to go, Charter ,private ,magnet, city and any school that operates differently than pure public schools should be separated. What really needs to be done is address urban and rural. About all the usual powers have access to several kids from other schools period.
    • Sad deal. Hate it. So the coach that kicked her off is now fired??
    • Slightly off topic from a gender standpoint but just observed several boys volleyball games in the Knoxville area for a short spring season. The guys seemed to have a great time. There were several club players on each team but several football, basketball and tennis players involved. Knoxville Catholic, Maryville, Heritage, Knoxville West maybe William Blount had teams. Thanks to Coach Brent Carter from Knoxville Catholic/K2 for getting it together. I’m sure the coaches involved got several laughs trying to coach guys that really had no idea what they were talking about but pretty athletic and competitive. Catholic’s best basketball player told the coach he had played a lot of 2:3 and 1:3:1 but never a 3:3 LOL Maybe it will catch on with some more schools next year.
