I disagree with point two in this case.  The injury was a broken nose, but I think that was determined later.

In my youth teenage boys would fight and someone would get a bloody nose and maybe the occasional broken nose.  I stand by my statement that most of todays parents are helicopter parents and the result is kids are not allowed to make mistakes and settle their personal issues with friends while growing up.  Hovering adults are truly ruining todays kids.

I think we are talking about two different things here.

I am speaking of this particular match.

I do wonder what mistake the wrestler made, the one that was on the receiving end of the sucker punch.

this was not even close to what you describe, at least in my view.

Chittum signs with Iowa State

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser announced the addition of Cody Chittum to the program Wednesday afternoon. Chittum was ranked as the No. 1 pound-for-pound high school prospect by FloWrestling after the 2021-22 season.

"Cody is super excited to be an Iowa State Cyclone," Dresser said. "He will bring Cyclone Nation to their feet in the coming years. He's an immediate impact kind of guy and we are excited to get him to Ames."

Chittum brings an impressive list of credentials to Ames. The projected 157-pounder has won Who's Number One, Super 32 - one of the country's most prestigious high school wrestling events - and a junior freestyle national title.

The Tennessee native also took fourth at the U20 men's freestyle world team trials and won gold at the Junior Pan-American Games in Colombia last year. Wrestling unattached, Chittum reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 Southern Scuffle before suffering a high-ankle sprain and medically forfeiting out of the tournament.

Chittum spent his freshman high school season at Blair Academy where he was a Beast of the East champion and a National Prep runner-up. As the pandemic hit, Chittum stayed in Tennessee and enrolled at Cleveland High School, where he won a state title in 2021.

Most recently, Chittum competed on the senior level freestyle circuit and medaled in three events. He earned silver at the Bill Farrell and bronze medals at the Henri Deglane and Egypt Ranking Series.

Evan Dixon signs with Cumberland

June 06, 2023

SUBMITTED
Cheatham County Exchange
ngcb1 Evan Dixon signed his letter of intent to wrestle at Cumberland. SUBMITTED

Sycamore senior and recent graduate, heavyweight wrestler Evan Dixon, recently signed to wrestle at the next level while attending Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Dixon was a 2023 region champion and a three-time state qualifier while wrestling for the War Eagles. His final GPA at Sycamore was 3.5.

“Evan was a pleasure to work with, Dixon’s wrestling coach Steve Hamblin said. “He has a certain dry wit and humor about him that makes people laugh. When he grabbed hold of you there was no laughing. Evan had a knack for putting you on the mat quickly. He is an extremely strong young man. He was a 3-sport athlete playing football, soccer and wrestling. We hope for nothing but the best for Evan at the next level.”

Garrison Dendy, 141/149

With UTK 26’ in his Instagram bio, it appears that Garrison Dendy has decided to step away from the sport of wrestling and return to Tennessee where he graduated high school. However, it’s still worth a call from a coach IMO. Dendy didn’t wrestle a match the one year he was at Wyoming, but he was the #88 overall recruit coming out of high school in 2022.

Potential Landing Spot: Tennessee Chattanooga

Dendy clearly wants to be back in Tennessee, and his friend and high school teammate who originally went to Wyoming with him, David Harper, transferred to Chattanooga.

Cleveland’s Piper Fowler will be representing the United States in wrestling in the under 17 World Championships inIstanbul, Turkey, starting at the end of July.

Said Fowler: “This was always like my goal was to be representing USA. Not just Cleveland High School, notjust Tennessee, but my country.”

She is the first girl in Tennessee history to win the tournament and earn a spot in the World Championships.
Fowler: “Exciting to be able to win and feel what it was like to win finally. I think that this year has been an amazing year for me, and I’m just excited.

Fowler lost in the finals of the tournament last year and he used that loss to fuel her for this season.

Said Fowler: “Losing is never fun, but it’s good for you. You learn from it and you get better from it, and then you’re able to improve next time and make those teams and win those tournaments or place at those tournaments. Whatever your goal is.

Her dream of her representing the USA will soon become a reality and she honestly doesn’t know what it’ll feel like when it does actually happen.

Said Fowler: “There’s a lot of different things that you think that it’s going to be like, what it’s going to feel like, but you never know until you’re actually there and you actually experience it.

And now she has a new goal to win in a US singlet.

 Great TV interview..

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
