I keep reading about all these freshmen transferring to the Rebs. Unfortunately, none of us know who these kids are. My guess these backfield boys took a look at the talent and did not see much opportunity for the next 3 years. Recon the Reb's frosh class of 34 had anything to do with their transfer?

Wouldn't surprise me any. Why stay if you see someone is going to be blocking the road ahead of you and your talents are good enough to start at another local school in the area. From what I'm hearing the numbers are down at both Alcoa and Maryville as compared to past years although I still am seeing the kids continue through both programs that have been key players over the years. Not sure why this is and it really showed up this year more than any. As one friend of mine said to me last year once you get put on the shelf at Maryville you will always be on the shelf and unless you want to play your better off moving on. There was one kid that comes to mind that would have never got the chance and went on to another school that even won the state championship and he was a big part of it three years ago. There are two kids that were in the Maryville system that are the key players on the teams they play on outside the county this year that would have been apart of the shelf had they continued to play. Another reason I see attrition being so bad is that kids from the lower grades are being hyped up by adults to a point of being such a threat to the older one's that they say why stay when all these people are praising them like gods. I would move on also in that situation.

Believe it or not but the attrition rate at Maryville and Alcoa have been a steady 12% decline in players out for ball for the past two years in a row but the schools keep growing.  Of course that may fly over some peoples heads like the ice is melting at the North Pole. Another two years of that and things could change.

Two years ago if someone had ask me who the second best team was in East Tennessee I would have told you Maryville's second team and not thought a second thought about it and maybe not that far off now but the team is stacked with kids that can play at other places which is a good thing. Kids that might not have got on the field have went on and made it big somewhere else which is also a good thing. It shows how well they have been trained in the Maryville or Alcoa systems. Getting put on the shelf means forgotten about when someone younger comes in that's been labelled and hyped up by fans. Someone that I know that has a son in the 10th grade told me a lot of them have fallen off the team because of all the hype they have read and heard about the 9th grade kids coming up and I go see only 37 freshmen out for football. That has to be the lowest number of freshmen out since the turn of the century. Thank goodness for the four that came over or we would have 33. This is about the attrition that is happening in both of the programs at an alarming rate. I've heard a million reasons why different kids quit or moved on but I would hate to see this continue or it will be a major concern on down the road.

They are building a football field there I think but the rich pricks of Farragut won’t let them get lights so they are possibly looking at property to build a stadium & field with lights
