I will start this by saying I have not seen Clay play. From seeing there game scores and reading this site I don't think they have near the chance they had last year. They have gave up 86 points to LA, 81 to Macon and 78 to Wayne county KY. That tells me their defense is a weak part of their game up to this point the quality teams they have played they out score them to win.

The Key kid is obviously a great player but when one player is averaging 50% or more of your teams total points that will eventually be a problem when playing better teams. Humbolt and Grace Christian are two better team. GCA has a 6' 7" and 6' 9" plus a lights out 3 point shooter and Humbolt plays a tough schedule. I'm not trying to take away from Clay just don't think there as good as the past two years.

I agree it's way to early to tell but since you haven't seen Clay play making an assumption on scores is foolish. The LA game was HOF and LA shot lights out. They ended with like 65% from the field. Clay would blow them out if they played again. Wayne County would beat any of the 8AA schools including all of the 7A/8A. They are a very good team especially in Monticello and MC is probably the best team in 8AA besides maybe UHS. So basing your opinion on those games in a poor indicator of their ability.

I agree one scoreing over half the points can be a problem but there isn't anyone in single A that stops Key this year. He is averaging 42ppg and hasn't been held under 35 a game. The kid is a rare talent and I feel is the best point guard in the state besides Darius Garland.

I personally feel Clay is much better this year and play 10x faster. They lack size compared to last year but rebounding isn't a problem. I gurantee Macon County outsizes 90% of single A teams and Clay handled them fine. Clay has the easier road to the glass house. GCA, Humboltd, and even the west tn teams will have to fight in their region and substate.

Possibly the 4 best teams in the state are in the west in Halls, Mitchell, BTW, and Union City. Two of them won't be in Murfreesboro.

The only thing I will dispute is Wayne county. They are not very good they have won 2 games they beat Pickett 53 to 42 and Danville, KY who has won only 2 games. I do not think Wayne beats all of 8AA not sure they beat Macon and don't think they beat Upperman and may not beat Smith county. If Central Magnet has there big boy they may not beat them.

My bad you must be referring to where he played two quarters because it was a blowout at halftime. He could have easily put up 60 in this game if Rob had wanted to leave him in.

So by implying Goordonsville held him to under 35 because he only scored 31 in two quarters is flat incorrect.

Celina has no shot at winning the State Tourny. And Macon Co is weak as water, UHS is the only good team in that District. If anyone thinks that Celina will get past good teams by shooting layups then you are smoking some good stuff, good team won't let them. Size won't be a big deal because let's face it, it's single A basketball & there is very little size in Single A. Celina will probably get to the State Tourny because it's a very easy path for them, but winning it is a completely different story. Saying that I wish them all the best & I hope they do win it all

Endicott is a great kid, good ball player but he didn't fit in with Clay as a team. Not saying he wouldn't help especially with the rebounding and defense but they didn't gel when he was there.

judging on his soph year? He is 6'8, averaging about 23 ppg, 3 blk, 12 rebounds this year in AA. I would think any team in state would take a talented big man like that, specially single A.

    • That was after the 2nd year of a 4 year cycle.  Since Covid we have been on a 2 year cycle.  So, there really isn't a "mid cycle" reclassification this time.   Idk if there's anything in place to address the issue of a school closing.  My guess is, nothing can be done.  This would be akin to the 1st year of a 4 year cycle, where a school has the 20% +/- but not allowed or even have the option to move up or down.
    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. I will be waiting.  https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39431892/judge-drops-ole-miss-player-lawsuit-lane-kiffin
    • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
