If the transition goes smooth thru spring practice, next yrs very talented team will play with a monster chip on their shoulder. I think they will have a lot to prove, and that motivation has been hard to find every week for the last 15 years.

man that was spot on!!! Penny would be proud!!! that's what murvil needs is sum motivation!!! here we go 15-0!!!

Nope.

Even if they promote the ballboy to Quarles' old job, that program is so good from top to bottom that it would take at least 2-3 years to see that kind of decline.

There's Maryville, then there's everyone else east of Nashville.

People forget that Tim Hammontree won state there the year before Quarles took over.  Quarles didn't put Maryville back on the map, he just kept it there for nearly 2 decades of dominance.

Yes and double yes. If not for Hammontree's tenure we'd never had GQ. GQ getting hired can also be traced back to Hammontree having a certain QB as a Freshman during GQ's 1st year.

Did D-B make any coaching changes on the defensive side? If so maybe a slight chance. If not, well.....

So far, no changes. And I don't look for any. There have been a few rumors as there have been for the past five years. Here in Kingsport we look at rumors as "wishful thinking". I honestly don't think you will ever see DB have a good football team again. Sad to see what they have done to the states wining'est football program.

The Rebels last regular season loss was the first game of 2010.

Do DB and SH (Dobyns Bennett and Science Hill) have a legitimate shot at beating them in 2017?

The topic would have been better had you said ," Does any team in East Tn have a legitimate shot ".Maryville was great at times before GQ,he just made them one of the best every year.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
