Father Ryan 44 McCallie 33

I was looking forward to Dendy vs King. I know they trained together as kids and have both been at the top of their game this year. Dendy has a huge win against 2x Georgia state champ Cody Cochran where he dominated while wrestling at 160. King hasn't had anyone go a full match with him yet that I know of. Mistake on McCallies part in my opinion. Let the boys wrestle. I know the fans were anxiously waiting for that one but the Father Ryan fans once again showed their rudeness by booing Dendy as he walked onto the mat. I know he didn't back down from that match and no 18 year old kid should be bood at for following directions.

Good points and certainly it was not Dendy's choice to bump up. As for the FR fans, I'd have to agree. Have some class people!

Well then, I hope Simpson relishes his victory over an 8th grader! Haha!! Hope those two will wrestle again at the State Duals - my money is on Whitworth EVERY time! He got robbed of 2 points in the first period (just my opinion), then (again just my opinion) coach made a mistake putting him on bottom in the second (when I'm pretty sure Whitworth wanted neutral). Anyway, two great wrestlers, but the "muscle maturity" between a senior and 8th grader is worlds apart. Hard to even compare the two.

I also don't think McCallie showed their hand in this match. If there is a rematch, it will be very entertaining (with perhaps a different outcome). Tornado looked VERY strong with Ward, Herring, Sell, Dendy, Duhm, and Henry. Not to mention Whitworth.

You must not like money.

It was already stated there was 1.5lb difference in the dual. Not nearly enough to be of any significance.

Hey,

I'm Alex's dad. Alex is a big 106. I don't know how much Simpson cuts for 113 but regardless Alex often wrestles at 113 and does fine, so Alex, me nor his mom is using that as an excuse for him losing to Simpson.

Also choosing bottom was the right call at the time. He's usually good off bottom and down by two having come very close to a reversal in the 1st period, bottom was the logical choice. So no excuses for that either. Probably won't do it next time though, but at the time it made the most sense

Fact of the matter is Simpson just out wrestled Alex on that day. No excuses. Alex could have taken an (I assume) easier match at 106 but he stepped up to try and help his team and to also challenge himself against a very good wrestler in Simpson in a dual meet that largely means nothing in the overall scheme of things. In my opinion that's how you get better. And I'm really proud of him for stepping up and giving it a shot.

It's been such a good experience for Alex to wrestle varsity as an 8th grader. He loves being on the team and being able to contribute.

I appreciate all the nice things some of you have said about Alex .

Apologies for getting long winded. I wrote this to say alex nor his family are making excuses about the loss. Simpson wrestled a great match. I'd like to say good job to Him and the whole Father Ryan team. We hope to have a better showing next time

The match that did not happen:  Dendy (McCallie) vs King (Father Ryan)

Everyone knows that both of these young men have been friends and training partners since they were in grade school.  The fact is the public would like to see two good wrestlers compete against each other.  People loved it when King and Murphy would wrestle and people still talk of Jimmy Hiller & William Simpson and the famous clock match.  The fact is wrestling studies have shown that the general public like dual matches because they are in and out of the gym in 2 hours and they want to see the good kids compete against each other.  This is not the end of the world but it was a missed opportunity to help grow the sport of wrestling in Tennessee.  Yes, someone would win and someone would take a loss but in the grand scheme of things it would make both kids better wrestlers.  While I hate to lose more than anything most former wrestlers will tell you they learned much more from a loss than they ever did from a victory.

Great post Chip. Very classy after a tough loss. And apologizes if I stirred things up in my earlier posts. Both are GREAT wrestlers and fun to watch. I didn't mean to take anything away from Simpson as he wrestled tough and smart in the match. And I think a lot of folks would love to see a rematch. But the future is certainly bright for your son! Good luck the rest of the way!

No worries, I appreciate your kind comments about Alex. Stirring it up seems to be what this board is about so no problem there. Thanks a bunch

If my comments came across as anything other than trying to say his wrestling speaks for itself I apologize. Sometimes tone and context gets lost in text conversations as opposed to spoken word. I was commenting on the post that said Simpson was bigger and stronger and that's why he won. My comment was for him to watch the match vs Summit at the GP west where he was clearly not bigger or stronger and teched him still.
