Most Anticipated State Finals Matches

Let’s get some discussion started about potential finals match ups.

In no particular order:

Bowers vs. Hicks

I believe Hicks is 2-1 vs. Bowers and both guys should be fat and happy by the time the finals roll around. Hicks appeared to fade coming off the 1-hour weigh-in, but looked great this past weekend.  This freshmen is the real deal.

Landers vs. McElhaney

Will Landers stay down at 26?  I see Landers winning a very controlled match.

Whitworth vs.  Simpson

Unlikely, but it would be great.  Whitworth spent plenty of time at 113 with a lot of success.  Will he move up to take on the champ?

Duhm vs Whimper

Could this be one of the most top-heavy weights in recent memory?  Tommy Bracket is a Fargo champ and will have to have an upset to make the finals.  I saw that Duhm went down to 170, but is now back 182 post-injury.  My source tells Whimper was going down to 170 to wrestle him, but will now stay at 82 as well.  Let's hope this one pans out.

Boykin vs Kramer

Can Kramer knock off the champ? Boykin may be the most accomplished TN high school wrestler in years.  Any idea where he is headed for college?  It seems that there are 10 good heavyweights in TN this year.  Maybe the deepest weight class if you were to combine all 3 divisions.

I don't think so. Boykin will likely win, but I won't be surprised if Kramer beats him. Kramer is the bigger of the two and surprising very athletic for a boy his size.

That was a good match last year. Kramer had Boykin on his back for a sec or 2. I still remember the oh arena was lik3 "ahhhhh". Thought it was gonna be an upset.

Thoughts:

1.  Whimper will go 170 because he wants to do well at the national preps

2.  Duhm will be at 182

3.  Look for Brackett to make the move to 195

4.  After getting pinned Whitworth will be at 106

5.  With Nicholson being injured I could see Dendy or Reiniche moving to 160.  Even if he wrestles it will be difficult on Ncholson to overcome a dislocated elbow in just 2 weeks.

Boykin is going to UTC according to what I am hearing and wrestling with his brother. I hear that is a reason why the older Boykin red-shirted this year. He wanted to wrestler with his brother.

This is news to me. Scotty reasons for redshirting from what I was told had nothing to do with his brother. I really don't think Nick will be going to UTC at all and they already have a heavyweight committed in this class.

    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
    • I am talking about what they both did for their team. They both carried their team for four years while they were both there. I wasn’t really comparing them that would be unfair. Bishop is on a level of his own.
