Under Performing Teams/Schools/Staffs

Ooltewah was coming off 3 consecutive 10+ win seasons then went 5-5 in the regular season with a senior heavy team. This season has been a mess of horrible special teams play and self destruction.

I'm gonna say Overton. They went 1-9 this year and the last 8 years had won 6, 7, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8 and 11 games.

Warren County hasn't had a winning season since 1990.

Coffee County hasn't won more than 3 games in a season since 2007. And this year they went 3-7 with close losses to Siegel and Tullahoma by a combined 9 points in addition to losing to Oakland, Blackman, Riverdale and Cookeville.

 

 

Campbell County was one of the worst teams in the state in their classification for decades. Then about 5 or 6 years ago they made a great coaching hire and now they are a perennial playoff team with an offense that scores 40+ a game.

Understand what your getting at, but Warren Co isn't gonna be good until they have an administration that embraces football. Not sure them or Coffee will ever be good unless they can drop down a class or 2

Rural 6A  football has been bad for a long time.  Memphis teams, RuCo teams, WillCo teams and Maryville always are represented in the championship.  The large rural county schools cant’t compete like they once could. Maybe is 1A-5A but not 6A.

Warren's athletes are nothing like what you see out of Murfreesboro, Knoxville, Memphis. With 2,000 students in the school I'll never be convinced they're not in the halls.

I would not say the large rural county schools are bad. That is too strong of a statement. But they don't have the numbers of quality athletes that the schools in the large urban area schools tend to have. And that makes it tough on them to get to the top level.

Bad might be a poor choice of words.  My point was that 6A rural schools have not been relevant in terms of state championships for quite sometime.  When was the last time you saw one in the largest classification championship game?

Not largest but Henry in 5A, 2011 and 2013. Could have competed with any in 6A.

Still curious for when the last time a Rural LARGEST classification team was in the state championship.

How many are left? Jefferson County, McmInn County, etc. I always remember McMinn having a fair amount of athletes at least in basketball.

Was 'probably' Gallatin, as at the time they won it they were considered a rural school.  Barring them it was 'probably' Lincoln County.
