Congratulations to the Union City Golden Tornado and their 1st 2A state championship. They are not very exciting to watch but what they do is run the ball and beat you up front and they do it to perfection. Those kids were written off after Mayfield and especially after Adamsville. But I have been around several of these kids and coached a few of them( in recreation baseball ) their mentality is never top till horn sounds. Great job young men and Coaching Staff..

They weren't written off by anyone that really knows what they are all about.

I am just telling several people had them losing to Peabody. Their defense came together and starting playing good football when it counted. Like I said I have known several of these young men and they have a lot of heart and fight in them. But the truth is a lot of people were shocked to see them get this far. I didn't say I was one of them.

Hard game to watch but got exciting at the end, wouldn,t be much fun playing for UC. I'd rather play horse shoes . lol. 30 was a BEAST but Ithink it would have worked with 21 as well. 21 was a monster on d.

Yeah he had over 800 yards rushing on the season and at least one 200+ rushing night filling in for Trey Jones #30...

The defense is what had everyone questioning if they could go all the way...The loss to Mayfield, not the loss but the way we lost and the Adamsville game...You can't give up 54 points in a game, in regulation, and be thrilled about your chances of winning a Gold Ball...They really tightened their chinstraps the last three games though...

Our defense has been a work in progress all season. Ugly at first but got prettier as the season progressed. Not a 10 maybe a 7 or 8, but it put a Gold Ball in the case.

    • That’s a good line. Wins would be Soddy, Howard, and Ooltewah. Maybe East Ham again or Knox Central. Tyner maybe but being that late in the year it’s hard to say. I don’t think we get by Red Bank this year.    Rhea could be anywhere from 2-8 to 6-4.
    • I agree with the Farragut and Bradley claim. Those will both be wins. Bearden like you say is depending on when you get them in comparison to when the wheels fall off.  As far as West goes I’m 50-50. They have been able to reload so far so until they show me they haven’t I can’t count them out.
    • during the 2nd round of the playoffs last year against Milan, Gray partially tore his meniscus. He had a minor repair around Thanksgiving. Recovery time was minimal and he has been full force for baseball this season.
    • What do ya’ll think the O/U will be? I would set the line at 2.5
    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
