FridayMainEvent
The current system would be used up till the semi-finals. At that point, we could adopt this new system. Keep in mind the selected media members would have no affiliation to a specific team or region: It would be interesting to develop some type of formula to rank the Semi-final teams at the end of the season. This would involve elements such as Strength of schedule, region finish, home and away wins etc.. Combine this formula with a very specific number of media members recognized for their Statewide coverage to rank the final four teams. Poll the selected media members for the 1-4 rankings and then combine that with the computer rankings and set the matchups. One vs. Four and Two vs. Three for the semi-finals. Top ranked team hosts (one and two). Then have a legit title game in Cookeville for each class. This would be inline with our current College Football Championship. The upside to this plan is the four semi-finalist had to play their way into the Title game so they can't be "left out" like the college version. ednagrinch
This would take West TN out of it. Not as many media outlets in West TN. The Jackson Sun vote would be demolished and we could change the name to the Blue Cross Bowl of Middle and East TN. Those areas are where the media outlets are. You can't tell me that UC somehow deserves to be "voted out" of a chance at a state title because the editor in chief of the Columbia Gazette has no respect for them. BatmanDevil
The traveling maybe as much as 8 or more hours would be the problem. If a Memphis area school could hop on a jet and be in the Knoxville area in an hour or so,that would be alright or if say Greeneville done the same and headed West. That's not the case but yes it would be nice to start from even the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs and do that , we would have some really bad matchups early but get the true best teams from all over the state playing later.I doubt many schools other then the most powerful would go along however. riverrat
Leave it the way it is. It is how most school systems wanted it. Couldn't care less what the so called state wide media thinks!
BoardHater71
This is what the state wanted and now I agree that we will have to live with it for years to come.
