Our football coaching carousel doesn’t appear to be an anomaly.  According to Carolinapreps.com, North Carolina has recorded the following for High School Head Football Coaches Leaving:

YEAR                             CHANGES
 2008-09                    48
 2009-10                    77
 2010-11                    48
 2011-12                    74
 2012-13                    95
 2013-14                    88
 2014-15                    89
 2015-16                    83
 2016-17                   111

You can get addicted to moving every few years for sure.  In my military career we moved 10 times (12 different houses) in about 22 years.  Once you move a couple of times it becomes part of what you do. Now as a middle school head coach I have to fight that urge because of a commitment to the athletes and the program.  That’s not to say never move but in my situation it means putting others ahead of what I want in many cases.  Of course there are many factors that go into a coach leaving a program ie… forced out, better pay,  more support from the administration, more family time….. all of them are reasons that each coach wrestles with but something appears to be happening making it more prevalent to move from school to school and unfortunately that opportunity presents itself at the inopportune time…..which is always!

Good post.  Good luck Coach.  What school system are you with if I may ask?
