sx1234
How does this region shape up this year? A lot of people threw off on how easy this region was last year, but I think this region may be very tough this year as most of these teams were dominated by a lot of young talent. Central was looking like they weren't even going to make the play offs last year, but then won 4 straight (3 of the 4 being Gibbs, Sevier County, and South Doyle) and made it all the way to the semifinals, so are they the pre-season favorite? I think South Doyle has as much talent as anyone in the area, and Sevier County had a stud Quarterback that was only a freshmen- So I think these two have a reasonable shot of winning it as well. I don't know much about Carter, and I don't know much about Seymour other than they will have a new coach this year. Gibbs and Halls will also have a new HC as both of their coaches resigned, so those programs are kind of question marks right now too. madhatter2269
glad someone started this topic. ive been itching to talk about this region. central returns everyone except 3 out of their 4 linebackers and a few o-line and d-line. all their skills players, and their QB, dakota fawver, who is a gamer who got hurt in week 2 against fulton and was out the whole year will be back. south doyle has tremendous talent, ball and young can play. i would say carter and seymour won't be very good, and halls and gibbs will take a step back while sevier county will be improved as well. Personally I would predict 1. Central 2. South Doyle 3. Sevier County 4. Halls 5. Gibbs 6. Carter 7. Seymour I know we are still months away from any game being played so a lot could change, but that may end up being my pre-season prediction. I originally was going to put SD at number 1, but if Fawver is back and healthy I would give the bobcats the edge. Just my opinion though
sneakypete
Any news on Carter? Rumor has it that something's going on with their coach too.

Witt is on paid admin leave, pending investigation. Not sure what that's about, but they could be looking for a new coach, depending on how that plays out. blazer1set
Not sure far you R2 boys will get come post-season, but I think you can put the first round in the bank against R1 5A. We were absolutely pathetic last year in going 0-4 vs. R2 and I suspect this year will be a repeat.

Yep, nobody wants to admit it, but the reality is that city athletes are just better than county athletes. Yes, there are exceptions; and I am sure someone is going to be triggered by this revelation but it's simply the truth. Also is magnified because of how strong Knoxville football is. gobears89
Smoky Bears have a shot at another State run. Would not surprise me if they run the region table undefeated. I expect region 1 will be weak and other than maybe SD and Central the Bears will have the best player on the field in region 2 games, so the path of least resistance still at this point is in east tn 5A. Region 3&4 have better talent but they will have to beat up each other so who knows come playoff time. My guess is healthiest team wins late season games and if super soph is healthy along w some other key kids the Smoky Bears will be as good as anybody. GoBears!! TheBigLebowski99
This will be the best conference through and through in 5A. Central, South Doyle, and Sevier County all should be really tough. We have seen it the last two years with Central and South Doyle. If one of these three teams get hot late, watch out!!
HTV
I look for Central and South Doyle to be the top 2 in that region. And right now I would favor SD with the uncertainty of the health of the Central QB. He is the key there. And on Carter, at this point it wouldn't shock me to see an interim named for the 2018 season and then a permanent hire made after the season. And that would be ironic, given that that is how Witt got his head coaching gig at Karns.
