1AfootballMan
I read somewhere that there’s been like 3 people to turn the job down and they still don’t have a coach. This is sad. They used to be a decent team in the early and mid 2000’s, but have been awful after that.

LTCB
Here is what we know. · The median home value is $52,600 with a median family income of $30,197. · The population is about 2,491 residents with 387 High School Students so you get the athletes you get. · Recently the coaching position was tied to a math certification which really puts a strangle hold on the applicant pool Anyone of those could be a dominant factor, but there are positives. · The community seems to value the Blue Devils Football team as evidenced by their picture on the town’s web page despite achieving a 28-114 win/loss record since 2004 and 1 playoff appearance. · The average school test scores in Jellico are 11% higher than the national average. · The median teacher salary at the HS is $41,320 plus coaching stipend. Not bad considering the IMHO the pieces are there to build a positive culture and bring a bit of swagger to being a Blue Devil. Army, Air Force and yes even Navy are small in comparison to DIV 1 programs but each one builds men of character who learn to fight and win. Jellico can too. Good luck to Head Coach Massengale and the Blue Devils this year.

1AfootballMan
They also will not schedule up. They used to schedule Greenback, Carter, and Scott County. Now they just schedule those cupcake Kentucky teams. I’m serious. They play 4 Kentucky teams. I mean half of Jellico is in Kentucky, but still....

That Region 2 is the SEC of 1A football, they simply couldn’t compete. They’re back in Region 1 now where they were for years. I have a serious question about Greenback. How do they keep kids in shape to play a whole game when all of their starters are out by halftime during blowouts?

This is why we are always one of the top 1A teams. Its just the way it is,and our coaches have always understood that.To compete you have to have your best players on the field all the time in small town football. It would be nice to have a rotation but i love it this way.We call it ironman football. Also yes i now remember that Jellico opted to go to region 1 and yes it was a very smart move for them.
