South-Doyle vs Bearden

Two undefeated teams coming into this Friday. South-Doyle has outscored opponents 144-31 so far this season and had to fight for the win this past Friday against Gibbs. Mason Brang had one of the best games of his career so far and the offensive line looks like they have finally got it together. The defense has been outstanding as well with playmakers all over the field. Who do you have in this tough non region game? I have South-Doyle winning 35-14.

Should be a great game. If both teams play to their potential, I think SD takes it. More speed!

I watched Maryville and Bearden play this past spring in a scrimmage and we had one player that took it to the bank everytime he run the ball and had close to 200 yards and 4 touchdowns and only a sophomore so speed will be S-D's advantage in this one.

Matches is back with a prediction. I went to Fulton and Powell last week, it turned out about like I thought it would with Fulton coming out victorious. But back to the SD - Bearden game. I love this matchup because it is a team that is extremely overhyped (SD) and a team that is not flashy by any means but just plays good football. I'm not saying that SD doesn't have the athletic talent that people act like but they except that I am. If Tennessee is planning on depending on that one gentlemen they are recruiting from SD Pruitt is in for a long tenure at UT. Here is the fact of the matter SD had to dig down deep to find a win to beat an atrocious Gibbs team. Well, if SD tries to dig down against Bearden they'll find out they don't have a big enough shovel. I take the Bulldogs in this one 28 - 7.

While I do believe Gibbs was not as good as most teams around, it's not everyday that a team has a week to prepare for a triple option team which is a hard offense to stop and I believe SD did a great job with that. I think SD knows they still have to prove themselves and what better way to do that then stump a good 6A team. I think SD will be fully ready for this game and have the athletes on the field to win. It will be a good game though.

I'll have to disagree with that. Two of the best coordinators in the area on the same team.

100% aggre. The bulldogs have two great coordinators. there dc is the best in region 6a and nick myers (former reb) is doing great at calling plays. I just don't see the cherokees hanging in there this week.

This one should be interesting... Bearden's strength is certainly their defense but the O seems to be finding some rhythm of late - definitely have the players to be productive.  SD has a very volatile offense but they have not faced a tough defense so far this year - certainly not of the caliber at Bearden.  As they say, D wins championships... I take Bearden this week in a back and forth shoot out.  First one to 21 wins!

BHS 21  SD 17

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
