Lol...I doubt anyone “made” the state of Tennessee pay for it. If you believe that, then you just aren’t very smart. Just exactly who in OR could possibly “make” the state of Tennessee pay for it?

You obviously can't click on a link, read an article and comprehend what it says! You also lack humor and are possibly devoid of common sense and do not keep up with current events.

"In late 2017, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) approved a $496,000 Local Parks and Recreation Fund grant for the purpose of renovating Blankenship Field. The Blankenship Field Revitalization Foundation is providing an equal match to the grant, bringing the total funds to roughly $1 million."

For my friends at Oakland. Leave the gate open at Ray Hughes, call it a city park and you might qualify for some state funds.

To the contrary, that's exactly what I did. I have a sense of humor, I have common sense, and I keep up with current events as well.  I illustrate those things partly by staying off the Maryville thread and minding my own business! How's that for a sense of humor and common sense?

I don't know if anyone "made" the state pay for it, but OR applied for the maximum amount of state funding (with the required promise of a funding match) and TDEC approved it. I'm surprised that TDEC approved it to begin with, given the specific nature of the project. Yes, Blankenship must now be open to the public, but IMO, the project doesn't quite meet the requirements established by the Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPGF) program.

According to TDEC, the LGPF program "provides state funding for the purchase of land for parks, natural areas, greenways and the purchase of land for recreational facilities. Funds also may be used for trail development and capital projects in parks, natural areas, and greenways."

So does that mean that Blankenship will be reclassified as a park?

Nah but they're getting around it by opening it up to the general public, wasting some money on trailheads and resurfacing the track around the field. Should have never gotten the state involved but bless their hearts that's the only way the city heads could figure out how to do it without city money being used.

Do you have permission to be on an OR thread?

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
