I just watched last year's game again. Here's what I saw:

At the end of the 1st quarter 7-7.

In the second quarter Covington throws a pick straight to Warwick. Results in a short field TD for Alcoa. Covington offense stopped by Alcoa. Alcoa drives inside 10 yard line, held 3 downs by Covington, Alcoa kicks a field goal. 17-7 Alcoa at end of 2nd quarter.

Covington takes the 2nd half kickoff and drives for a TD. No more scoring on the quarter. 17-14 Alcoa at end of 3rd Quarter.

Alcoa drives inside 10 yard line early in 4th quarter. Covington D holds them 4 downs and takes over on downs. Covington tries a reverse on the goal line, fumbles into the end zone and Alcoa covers for a TD to go up 24-14. That basically decided the game.

That's why I think Covington can play with Alcoa this year if we avoid turnovers. Take away the first interception (throw the ball away) and the gift fumble in the end zone (even if we just punt it out of there the way our D was playing) and you have a different ball game.

I'm glad that speedy fast WR that scored first for Covington last year graduated. He was hard to cover.:-o

Alcoa’s fumble in the first half as they were driving deep into Covington territory changed the momentum of the game also. :thumb:

Covington went to war in 6 inches of mud and rain for 4 qtrs vs Stratford.  If you havent seen Stratford dont comment.  Size and athletes playing a role of Cinderella with confidence and momentum.  The Chargers showed up.   They will show up Saturday.  It will be a great game.  Our game is based on quickness and speed.  Friday we played smashmouth.  Sat it will be nice to stand and run.

....then, I am glad Alcoa played Austin East twice in a month. They had two speeds.......going..and GONE!

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
