Maybe I missed it, but how did Gallatin/Shelbyville go?

Wave 1st team defense gave up a score through the air but dominated on the ground.  Gallatin scored on the ground and had an int returned for a td.  2nd team scored and held Shelbyville out of the end zone.  Lots of little things to work on but a good hard hitting scrimmage.

That is still a ton of experienced players coming back.  Why the question marks at QB? Is that kid who played last year just good enough to play at other positions because of need?  I fully expect Beech to be in beast mode by Henry Co.  I am hoping the Wave can upset Hillsboro again and make that week 9 game interesting, but that is a long way off right now.  Way way far off.

I would love to hear Tandem's assessment of tonight's scrimmage against Dickson County.

JAMBOREE FINAL,

OAKLAND 14

GALLATIN 7

My thoughts: Gallatin came out of the gate swinging and put together a nice, sustained drive and converted a 4th & Goal at the 1yd line to go up 7-0. Oakland put together a nice drive of their own, and made it 7-7. Both teams were getting in the others backfield on defense from what I could see. But Oakland made a couple key blocks which made the difference, allowing the RB to hit the corners well. QB also looked good, and made a great looking downfield pass at the end on a 3rd & 17.

Oakland after watching them is still a dominant 6A team in my opinion, and will be the team to beat in the state this year until proven otherwise.

Gallatin after watching them, have some good size and lots of athletes as well. HOLD ONTO THAT BALL! Proud of them squaring up with Oakland who has been punishing lots of good teams. Things are getting better in Wave Land, hoping for a good season this year. Thanks for coming Oakland Patriots and giving us some good work. (Also, I see you are getting a SILVER Turf Field, should look very nice)

GO GREEN WAVE!

Agree it was good work.  Very pleased with what I saw.  Gallatin scores and Oakland scores then Gallatin pulls the starters.  No injuries.  Oakland scores on Gallatin’s 2’s so those guys got to see a very talented team and realize what real speed is.  Very happy with what I saw!

The Gallatin stadium looked very good last night and so did the first team offense  on it's drive but the defense needs  to learn to tackle.  Way to many missed tackles.  I understand Oakland is 6A but tackling is tackling and that is football.  Better score alot if that's is our defense

There is a reason Oakland went through playoffs last year with a combined score of 166-17. With 3 shutouts. Beat Maryville 38-0 & Whitehaven 37-0 in the 'ship. A team like that is bound to make other teams appear worse. Oakland had a very fast ground attack. Gallatin was getting pressure at the line against a very big and physical Oakland line. For all we know, we didn't see Oakland nor Gallatin stop the other's 1st team offense. Oakland has been punishing teams as of late. Doesn't matter if we're talking 6A, 1A or Division 2 ball, Oakland is the class of Tennessee football at the moment.

    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
