Holding a kid back a year is not against the rules. There are a lot of parents who chose to do it for other reasons. When a coach knows a rule but will still brake it is somthing the TSSAA needs to address.

I don’t have pictures. I don’t have emails. I don’t have texts. I DO have eyes. I have seen it at more than one game myself this year in Sumner County. The truth is, I wish we could get a couple of those same privates on the schedule. Kids wouldn’t leave and go to that school if your zoned public school hung 60 on them, just because they want to feel special that little Johnny is “being recruited”. I’m still not sure why kids are leaving Rutherford or Sumner Counties to go to privates. Especially kids leaving Sumner to go to JPII... I mean they have never won anything in football. One playoff victory? Their best record EVER is 7-4 and that was with a NCAA All American, a Biletnikoff winner, a NFL Pro Bowler. Talk about a waste of talent.

YOUR KID ISNT GOING TI GET BETTER COACHING.

YOUR KID DOESNT HAVE A BETTER CHANCE IF PLAYING IN COLLEGE. 

LET HIM PLAY WITH HIS FRIENDS AT PROGRAMS THAT HAVE TRADITION, HAVE BETTER COACHING, WIN MORE GAMES, HAVE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

TSSAA BYLAWS CHANGES APPROVED FOR THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR 1. Article II, Section 7 (Repeating Rule) This change states that a student who repeats sixth, seventh, or eighth grade and participates in school athletics while repeating shall be ineligible in all sports at all levels in the ninth grade.

Looks like the holding back has been addressed.

Gave you a trophy for speaking the truth.  The only thing they could remotely say they have over the county schools is a turf field.  Of course some parents like to brag about their kids getting recruited.

(Name of private school here) can only offer so many "bus driving" jobs to dads of players.

This rule has been in place for the 8th grade for years it is just now going to 6th 7th and 8th grade. Most kids are held back before that but if the rule is broken and someone knows about it turn them in.

It happens all the time and the student that is held back just doesn’t participate in the sport through the school (I think that only applies if it is a TMSAA sanctioned sport, which isn’t going to allow two 8th grade years of participation anyway). Seems like a weird rule to me. 

Just watch the privates... they always seem to find a way around the rules they don’t like (some people call it cheating, but we all know the privates don’t do that).

Since there is an age limit and a four year limit starting in 9th grade, what difference does it make if a kid is held back? Do what is best for your kid.

      OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.

      They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.

      The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.

      I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
