Alcoa played three 6A schools Two away, one at home. The attendance for it was no bigger than the typical 3A schools.

Alcoa had 65 players last season. There is not anymore OZ players playing for Alcoa than Maryville.

Keep whining! Simply shows your scared of little brother getting too big! Fact!:thumb:

BC they didn't bring the band may have had a lot to do with the crowd that night. D-B is fans love their band and when you have all those parents that follow their kids to see everyone of those games and they don't send the band then neither do the fans come. I'm sorry that you wouldn't like to move to 5A but I think Alcoa would do very well in that class. It also could be the difference in some of the larger colleges looking at their players. A lot of recruiters say Alcoa kids are a gamble sometimes because they don't play anyone and it's hard to judge a kids performance against nobodies. Alcoa can win in 5A and needs to think about the sake of the kids not Gary's trophy collection.

There is a theory that 5A was just created to give Knoxville teams that could not get past Maryville or Ruth Co teams a division to play in and win a state title. Might not be a coincidence that a few Knoxville schools never won a state title until 5A was created. Central, Farragut, West.

If Alcoa moved to 5A, they would might create another division to accommodate teams with over 1200 kids.

All kidding aside, I know it urks some folks that Alcoa has 18 state championships, but they played a classification up for years.  They are playing exactly were their enrollment puts them and they are not even one of the biggest 3A schools.

While next year I do think Alcoa could win 5A, if Alcoa has a drop in talent in a few years but could still win 3A but maybe not 5A, is it far to those kids to be denied a state championship that they would have won if they played in the classification they were actually supposed to be in?

hammer, barney post is a straight cut and paste from years back when Maryville played in 4A, and everyone wanted them to move up! The only thing barney left off was to say Alcoa need to play big boy football!

Oh, one other question........when Maryville annexes William Blount High school will it become Maryville high school part 2 or Maryville city jail?!!

It really don't bother me at all how many kids from Eagleton travel over to Alcoa and pay tuition. My issue with it is the TSSAA should count 20 kids per tuition football player then put that school in the correct class it should be in. If they did that to Alcoa and put them in 5A instead of running all over a group of schools that can't even score a point against them it would be a much better deal for everyone. Alcoa football attendance would go up and they still would most likely win it all in 5A and possibly create a lot more interested fans to come out and see them on a Friday Night. When a 3A team can beat a powerhouse 6A school on it's own field like it did 2 years ago then my argument has some valid points. I'm all for kids going where they want to go but when you have a cluster of kids doing it at the same school then we need to do what is fair for everyone.

The is a classic thread. Blount County talks about building a new school and Maryville fans start slobbering all over the places. Close that pipeline, move Alcoa to 5A! Ha!:thumb: Do anything too stop Alcoa from winning more championships than Maryville! Yeah!

A Maryville Fan even worried  about Alcoa gate money.....

I was only worried because they had ran out of football money to send that soccer team to the state a year or two back. Maybe why they picked up Blackman and D-B so they wouldn't get into that pickle again playing all those little farm communities where everyone goes to bed by 8 p.m. to go to work the next day instead of at a football game. I'm just telling you that don't look good at all when you turn on Diamond Clear to watch an Alcoa Football game and nobody is there on the other side of the field. People are just sick of that type of football now days and just refuse to go watch it. I went to the Pigeon Forge game against Alcoa and sat with the other 99 people just to make it 100 in case anyone watching TV decided to count heads. Gary Rankin should be ashamed of himself knowing good and well his team could win championships in 5A while putting these little schools that don't have the financial support Alcoa has through all those senseless beatings week after week. Watching Alcoa football reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode where this man would go to the casino and win at every game he played until he realized he couldn't lose and he had went to heydees.

We don't care.We like winning anyway we can, even if its club'n baby seals. Got the Blackman, Maryville and DB games circled to make a statement next season! One a 6A state Championship team, two, third round 6A playoff teams:thumb:

BTW, how's Maryvilles luck been pulling out zone players in the off season? Quite the list!....even working a Catholic QB too? Great! Yea, Tee's son got'um all scrabbling. Glad Alcoa was able to aslo benefit from that situation!B)

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
