Clarkrange and Pickett County state bound

Pickett Co had a very bad game and was lucky to win 45-42 in OT. We had several chances to pull away but kept letting them back into the game. Officiating was horrible but you just have to overcome that. Eagleville got ahead by a point late but we went ahead and had several chances to go up by 3,4 or 5 but missed the front end of one and ones. PC went in for a last second shot in regulation and clearly was fouled but again they called it on PC. But then they said it was after time ran out. Abbi hit two free throws at the end of OT and with 1.1 seconds to go. Eagleville couldn't score. When Abbi was fouled it should have been intentional since the girl wrapped her arms completely around Abbi. Also their coach stormed out on the court screaming at the ref and kept screaming and no technical was called. But our girls pulled it out and congratulations on going to the state for the fifth time in six years!

Eagleville should have been shooting two free throws for the win with about one second left. Great game plan by Coach Lynch.

Eagleville got several calls to go their way tonight. Clear and obvious calls that should have went against them. The refs did the right thing to let the athletes decide the game on the floor.

Eagleville knocked our girls down with no fouls called including blooding our guard's nose. There should have been walks called that weren't, an intentional should have been called when that girl wrapped her arms around Abbi and technical on Eagleville's coach when he stormed on the court screaming at the refs. I have never seen such a blatent technical ignored. That foul you are talking about should have been called on Eagleville for fouling our shooter. Time had run out before the ref called the bad foul on us. So no, you should not have gone to the free throw line. PC should never had let it be that close. They should have pulled away when they were up by seven.

This was the same thing the Clay County girls faced last year. Refs making all the calls against the visitors and none against the home team. I’m afraid the Clay County boys will face the same one sided refereeing on Monday night.

Winning the region championship game so important. Playing at home on a short turn around helps tremendously. Local newspaper guy posted the final stats for both teams. Almost identical FG%, FT %, rebounds and turnovers.

You do realize these officials were from nowhere close to Eagleville. Should have been about 3.5 seconds left when Eagleville scored. Was a great game.

Yeah I’ve been around high school basketball in Tennessee for a minute or two. Best team won as I predicted. Let’s move on

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
