Should be Defensive and Offensive Mr. Football with a Team Mr Football given to best O-Line.  Rely more on the Regional High School Coaches nomination to narrow the field Down so writers don’t have to watch as much film before making an educated decision.

Best oline would be even harder to pick. I mean we really already have a best oline award. The gold ball

I could see a defensive and offensive mr football

True but An O-Lineman will never get picked on the offensive side of the ball at-least a D-Lineman has a shot on the defensive side!

Being on the line it’s just something I guess you have to deal with no awards. They don’t give heisman in college to a lineman and rarely has defensive player won it.

I will say lineman are the biggest part of being a successful football team.

There's your problem, my friend.   You mentioned 4 teams that should have people nominated.   We're only allowed 3 nominees per class.   If you go by team success only, I don't see that as a fair standard.    I factor in how important a player is to their team, so I guess that's kind of the same thing.   There is so much criteria to consider and so many kids to consider.

The worse thing TSSAA has done in regard to this procedure is do away with the "lineman" Mr. Football award.   They virtually have no shot now because they are typically making the newpaper each week or having their names called out over the PA.   That's one thing I hope we eventually bring back.

You factor in offense only?

Definitely take the family friend buddy system out of it. There’s more to this award in my opinion than stats because those can be padded. Actually being at games and seeing how they unfold and who literally took the game over is more important.

Yeah coaches across the state in each classification would make the voting more fair but keep media involved also

How would you choose a mr football lineman ?  Size ? Pancakes  ?  I’m being serious. It seems like it would be hard to do

Offensive and Defensive Lineman were considered.   I personally solicited these boards for that information.  Defensively, you can look at tackles, solo, tackles, TFL, Sacs, FF, etc...   Offensive lineman really only have pancake blocks in the stats, so you look at how their offensive produced.   1500 yard rusher usually indicates some great lineman in front of them.   Reputation was the biggest indicator for offensive lineman.    The opponents know who the hosses are.

My only point is this, the best player in the state may be a lineman, but he has almost zero chance of winning the most prestitgious individual award now.
