South Doyle @ Powell

Boy, I really don't know what to expect in this one. This is a BIG game for Powell's psyche, although I wonder how much Lowe and Duncan will show in this game since it has no bearing on playoff positioning.

The Panthers showed a ton of resolve in their comeback against OR, but early mistakes have killed them in their last two games. SD can certainly run the ball, and that has been Powell's Achilles' Heel all season. I think we're going to see a similar result again this week - Until Powell slows a power running team (like SD), I don't see them getting the W.

No way they can take 3 losses in a row and recover.

Powell 35 SD 24. Powell made a season full of mistakes against OR. Hopefully got that out of their system. SD has a very good d-line and will present a challenge running the ball like they did in the 2nd half against OR. Coach needs to turn QB loose and let him throw down the field to all those talented receivers.

I agree with this. Powell should win this game running away, but can SD create opportunities and take possessions away from Powell. First 2-3 possessions from Powell will probably determine how the game will go.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
