Joe Anderson is a huge loss for Maryville. You don’t lose a 4 year starter of his caliber and not feel some sort of repercussions from it. Not saying they won’t still be really good, but that’s a hard one to replace. Brown & Seiler are both really quality players themselves though. Bearden has most kids back from last year, yeah? If so, I would have to call them the favorites, although OR is also looking really strong. We’ve scored 100 2 games in a row, and that’s not easy to do in HS. Granted, the opposition wasn’t really up to par, but still.

Don’t know much about the others, but I do expect Clinton to be pretty tough. They gave OR a run for their money a few times last year. Not sure who they lost off that squad, but Garner may be the best player in the whole region. That kid is something else. I’m just concerned about getting to play out the season. Everything is just so unpredictable right now with the virus.

Losing Joe Anderson and AJ Davis was huge. Joe Anderson is a press breaker and AJ Davis was a great on ball defender. A pest.

Looks like Bearden and Oak Ridge are still the leaders so far this year with no losses in district play.  Can anyone compete with Oak Ridge in district 3?  Clinton, Central, Powell?  Can anyone beat Bearden in district 4? Maryville, West, Farragut?

I think in 3 Clinton has the best chance. They seem to match up pretty well with us. After them I would say Central, but we’ve beaten them by 20+ both games. The upcoming game @ Clinton should be a good one. I think Maryville can beat Bearden, but we’ll see. Honestly, it’s high school basketball, so all it takes is one bad night of shooting and you can have an upset. That’s basketball in general though.

Who are the picks for district player of the year?  My picks would be Milloway or Miller from OR for District 3 and Pruitt or Bredwood from Bearden for District 4.  Surely the best player on the top two teams would win it.  Both Bearden and OR went undefeated in league play.  Any thoughts?

Also, how are the brackets for the district tournaments shaping up?

Who is Maryvilles best player? Usually it goes to him

Depending on what happens tonight when was the last time the non-Knoxville schools (AC,Campbell,Clinton and OR) were the regional qualifiers from District 3?

Hasn't happened since 2000. Not sure if it has ever happened.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
