Agreed bad situation. There will be more to come to light on this matter. I do t even have a dog in the fight but I do know the Dyer county coach is a prick along with his bald headed ast coach..  They are two ego maniacs..

They have made up so many stories from the first game they played at Dyers county.  Their fans were threatening the Arlington team and the Dyers police had to escort Arlington out.  The whole week before they played last night. The Dyers head coach was talking trash about Coach Shields. So bad that one of their players stood up for her and he kicked her out of practice  They wrote a article of lies in their news paper about how Arlington did this and that. When their fans were way out of line...

Way to join 45 minutes ago and make an argument about this. No matter how much you want to cover it up or try to justify anything. This should have never happened to McCord whether you like him or not. And the fact that it was coach Shields son is unacceptable. She is liable, Arlington high school is liable, and the TSSAA should be liable. I’d hate to be Chris Duncan right now. If he doesn’t play this the right way, I here that he may lose his job.

Part of what @SkyCrush said about the DC player is consistent with what I've heard. @WestTNroundball is right that what happened isn't justifiable, and I don't think many here are arguing that it was. That being said, as a coach, you can't cross certain lines, and it sounds like he said things that were well over the line.

There are a few different things that have to be discussed and they are all separate topics that everyone here is lumping together:

1.) The person that attacked McCord is in the wrong, period. They should have to face the law for assaulting someone, which it sounds like they are. The situation didn't justify that response.

2.) If Arlington's coach had knowledge of the planned attack or did anything to incite the attack, she should be punished for those actions. If she had no knowledge of it, and it was a random fan that did it, she shouldn't be held accountable for that. If it was a family member of hers that attacked him but she didn't have any prior knowledge of the plan, then it turns into more of a grey area. If players were involved, even if it was just aiding in the getaway, they should get in some form of trouble.

3.) Dyer Co. has to address the McCord problem. Him getting attacked isn't okay, but his actions are also something that shouldn't be acceptable. This isn't an isolated incident. He has gotten away with a number of things in the past, and it has set up a culture where he feels free to do however he pleases, with no fear of consequences. I'm not sure that culture is redeemable with him at the helm, but that is something for DC's administration to decide. If the things he said come to light, it will be harder and harder for them to sweep this under the rug. As mentioned before, it sounds like there is at least one player/family that might be ready to bring that information to light.

I don't think any of these points are arguable. You can focus on one specific one and scream about how the other school is at fault, but it doesn't change that there is plenty of blame to go around.

Dont have to prove you wrong.  Video from Dyer County gym not Dyers proved you wrong weeks ago.

Yes please show those films. So we can really see how the fans, green gobbling and his coaching staff were acting.

sadly the altercation happened and I will only agree with that.  On the other hand when I was 15 years old and I heard someone talking that much crap about my family or friends. I might have done the same thing. Who knows.

You can watch the first game at Dyer Co on YouTube...link provided. Skip ahead to the 1:17:45 mark and judge for yourself.

I have no idea what was said or what the techs were for, but if the coach was arguing because she thought the shooter got fouled then she is crazy. No idea what was going on here.

If you'll go back and re-read my comment. I was referring to the information he gave about him saying stuff about the opposing coach to his players. Not the rest of what he said about previous games. Personally, I don't care what happened in the prior meetings.

If you think hitting someone blindsided is ok because of some words spoken then you need to seek help.

Words are words. Hitting a person when they're not looking can and does have lifelong damage.

you made reference to a information of a player and the practice situation. It is incorrect. Social media had same type comments coming out of Arlington. Nothing justifies an assault. Especially one which was planned. An emotoinal moment , heat of competition type thing i can see a young person not making a good decision. This was not that. Was planned, fueled by coaches and players took part. TSSAA should handle it.They wont tough. harden County should get a pass into the next round. Next time what will excuses be and with Arlington, there will be a next time always is.

McCord did say things to his team about their coach and that's how the information got passed down the line. That's the information coming out of Newbern, not just Arlington. No one is justifying the assault. McCord didn't deserve what happened to him, but that doesn't mean that he didn't do something that should result in punishment from the school.

I think the TSSAA should have stepped in, but they won't. They don't have the resources to investigate on their own, and neither side is going to provide them with the full truth. With this being something that happened off the court, it is going to be hard for them to pursue disciplinary action. Most of that will rest in the hands of the individual schools themselves. And we all know how that will go.
