I can’t imagine that Hva would be a good school/program for a young, first time head coach. 6A football in West Knoxville, whether good or bad, does not seem like a good place for a young first time (head) coach.

Never said it was a good situation for that to happen.

But if you can't find a head coach with experience who has had at least some mediocre success that's going to be the best option, and especially in Knox County where coaching supplemental pay isn't among the best in East Tennessee.

Same thoughts here that I have for Bearden but at a different angle, not going to be very likely to get a head coach with a lot of success because those tend to stay at those schools where they are having success. Especially for a school as young as Hardin Valley is, why not hire a young coach with new ideas so the program and the coach can grow and establish traditions together?

I know of a coach with a state championship on his resume that is very interested in that job, and he's also being courted for another very good job that is about to come open.

Don't discount Bearden's job.  It has two things that you need to lay a foundation - facilities and finances.

There will be no shortage of good applicants for that job.

Very interesting. Which coach and which good program?

Knox County definitely does not care as much about athletics as other systems (you all have already brought up supplements).  Some high schools in Knox Co. have a more involved/defined community and feeder program that gives them an advantage as well.  What makes it even more difficult is when you have an administration that does not value athletics either.  It is extremely difficult to hire a capable coach and put them in a position to be successful if the admin are not willing to shift staff positions to make room for the right person.

Which schools do you think help their athletic programs the most? I know West sees all of their athletes every day in the weightroom which is a big advantage other schools don't have. When it comes to feeder leagues I think AE, West, Bearden, Fulton, and Central have the best. Which admin needs to shift? HVA?

You can't just switch people around.  Now days a teacher/coach has to have the state certification/endorsement for the class that they teach.  So, if a coach coming in has a science endorsement, they have to teach science.  The admin can create another science position for that coach if they want, but they can't ask an existing science teacher to resign or teach something else they're not certified to teach just to make room for a new coach.

In short, the incoming coaches endorsement has to match an open position in  the same subject area.

Ain't like it used to be, but some admins/school systems are more willing to be creative in helping a new coach bring some of his own guys.

Yes great point orc. However, it's been done in KCS schools before to simply make up a position or title for a new HC. Something like Grad coach, discipline administrator, ISS "teacher", etc. If the admin of the school are willing to give the school support in academics it seems possible
