What really stinks is that two teaching positions which would allow a new coach to bring some assistants with him are held by Clinton football coaches.

Yes, that is total BS and the policy that allows that to happen has to be changed.  We can't allow that crap to continue.  SS said it right.  Ridiculous.

If you wanna Coach @ Clinton, then take your a$& there and teach, too. I don’t get it.

Honest question - Do they have any open teaching positions at Clinton?

Don’t know, and frankly don’t care. But, the principle of it all is what’s ridiculous. You have 3 guys who played for OR, coached for OR, and went to school @ OR, not to mention 1 having a son that went to and starred at OR - coaching at a school that is OR’s arch nemesis, while teaching at OR. Whether Clinton has any positions available or not is beside the point really. Like I said, RIDICULOUS. If you love them that much, then wait for a position at Clinton to open, or better yet, just leave the OR school system altogether and go teach somewhere else.

Maybe they don’t, I don’t know. But either way, it’s ridiculous in and of itself. Why would any guy who played, coached for, and went to school at, go and coach against that school with their arch nemesis?!

I agree, that does seem odd. For some of these guys, the teaching position is the driver, and financially, these guys are likely compensated better at OR.

Right, wrong, or indifferent, this isn't uncommon in Knox County; there are assistants throughout KCS who do not physically teach at the school where they coach.

Let’s just say it’d be like former Powell players that also coached and went to school there, teaching at Powell, while coaching against them with Halls. I’m sure that would go over like a turd in a fruit bowl, same as what I mentioned with our former players. It’s one thing to do it with 2 different teams, but when those 2 teams are arch - rivals? Nah. There’s just no loyalty anymore, and really that’s more of an indictment against our culture as a whole, than just this one instance. It pervades all sports, and the society in general.

Completely agree, especially about the loyalty comment.

The difference here is that we are talking about 2 separate school systems.  It happens a lot in Knox County, but that is all within the same system.  Being paid to coach in region against the school that provides your paycheck?   Only in Oak Ridge would we let this happen.  It's beyond ridiculous.  It's Asinine!

Another thing, in many systems in our state, the teaching and coaching are tied together.  You lose your teaching job, you're out as coach.  Lose your coaching job, out as teacher too.  I'm not saying this is right or wrong but it is true.  This makes it much easier for the HC to put together a quality staff that he wants.

On a side note:  Clinton screwed the pooch when they poached the SD kids. They went hunting in the wrong back yard.   Stay tuned to that one.

It’s almost like they did it out of spite. I don’t know, I don’t wanna be too judgmental of them, because I truly don’t know their reasoning behind it or their motivations as a whole, but it’s just completely odd to me.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
