Upperman should be the favorite until someone can beat them.  Beating a very good Oakland team in the season opener should send a message to AAA basketball that they are not going anywhere.  White County looked impressive at Lebanon last Saturday and will be right there at the end.  Cumberland County and Livingston Academy will both be very good once again and that district will be very tough.  South Gibson is a very well coached team and Lincoln County had a good summer and preseason and they will shock some teams.  Lawrence County looked very good on Tuesday on the road and has very good length in a weak district.  Still be interesting to see how Page does this year with a new coach.  Was not impressed with Tullahoma at Lebanon with the new hire, they have a lot of talent and could surprise some people but was not well coached.  Lot of good teams in the middle tennessee area in AAA, but Upperman is still the champion.

This is a good post, but I am confused. Is this a Middle Tn comment or a AAA comment? How do you mention all those middle tn/upper cumberland teams, add South Gibson, and not mention the runner up from the past season who only loss by 5 and returned 5 of their top 7 or 8? Heard they could have easily beaten Munford by 50, but one official had a say in that.

I have only mentioned teams I have seen play with my own two eyes.  Your group will be there and will have a very easy road to get there with a talented group of young ladies and one of the best coaches in the state who does a lot of work that goes unnoticed by most.  I think the physical play of Upperman and what they have to deal with inside their district throughout the year as well as their nondistrict schedule sets them up for another run. They are going to be young in some key spots and it will show at some times so that could be the deciding factor but come tournament time Coach McWilliams will have them ready to play as will your coach.

Both boys and girls will play Tullahoma at WCHS Saturday. WC girls also play Sevier at noon.

I believe Sevier County will give White County a good test and should beat Tullahoma.  White County should have no problem with Tullahoma in a early region match-up.

Cumberland County gave Cookeville everything they had Friday.  The AAA Upper Cumberland district is loaded with teams and they will host the region tournament this year I think?  They could send two teams to the glass house and very well should have four teams that deserve to be there over other teams in the state from weaker districts.

I have not seen them play but my good friend said they were loaded with talent and looked every bit the part against Maryville.  I value his opinion so I would say they will give White County a true test to see exactly where they are early in the season.

Huge win today for white co over sevier co! Guess white co is for real this year.

Honestly, one good to great player on a girls team can carry a team far.  I would say 90% of girls teams spend the first two months of the season just trying to figure out who can play and handle game time pressure.  Many teams don't have enough players to form a true JV team, nor the ability to play many JV games.  So you end up every year replacing graduating seniors with juniors/soph who have little to no game experience.  The good coaches earn there paychecks in Nov and Dec.  The REALLY good coaches earn their paychecks by being involved in their feeder middle school programs, which few coaches do.

Definitely agree Upperman is the favorite. That's a well coached bunch of girls. Down here in West Tn, Coach McNeal over at South Side always runs a good program and I was happy to see them make a deep run last season. He returns a good group so I couldn't talk AAA without them.

I would expect SS to play for a championship this year but the AAA ranks of girls basketball is brewing with talent all over the state.  It could be the teams who stay away from major injuries and those that get contributions from young players when it matters.  AAAA is very similar with highly ranked teams starting the year 1-2.  Girls basketball in the state is at an all-time high currently.
