This is a huge surprise. Brian Lake has been named the interim coach at JCM. Coach Shutes is one and done. Does anybody have any insight on this? Where will Shutes land?

Never can tell. He was making good money. May not be anything to do with JCM. Never know. I do think his family has had some health issues.

No insight at all, just my opinion and time will tell, but I think he may be ready to hang up his whistle. If so, he has nothing left to prove...great career and well respected.

Good post. I agree. He has helped build USJ into a great program and well respected. He has had a great career. USJ has done a great job reloading year in year out. You play them you know it is going to be a battle.

I read the article and it said family health related issues played a part. Hope it isn't anything serious.

I believe his wife has battled cancer and a few strokes, so her health is not great. There were also rumors of some administrative and personnel items that had to be addressed. One post I read on social media stated "retiring" and another stated "resigning", so not sure if we will see him on the sideline anywhere again or soon. Great guy, great coach, definitely a hall of famer

And are all other JMCSS head coaches at other schools offered the same?

Good question. Not sure what South Side Coaching staffs are being offered but gotta think they are being taken care of because if they are not then that is extremely wrong.  Liberty just hired a girls coach so not sure how that changes Coach Starks deal, Madison brought the Hicks family in to coach boys and girls ( not sure what they are doing during the school day ), The new North side combo of Woods and Northcutt seemed to be the best move as far as on the court goes (not sure what they are doing in the school building either). It would be interesting to see the daily schedule of all the head high school coaches in the JMCSD.

    • Worst thing SC could do is get rid of Dyer. I agree with everything said above.
    • Jada Hart, Jasmine Bailey and Kaitlyn Patterson the first two being PG's are all good guards and can handle ball pressure and are good players. Raven Wells will be a good post. There were games this summer where any one of the one's I mentioned were in double figures. Gibson County will control TO's much better this year and they will press more and get back to playing faster. AA is down across the board. I have been all over watching ball. Alcoa jumped to AAA and Jackson County moved down. to A. No telling who wins it this year. I agree Union City, Westview and Gibson County will be a dogfight and must see basketball. Poster insuated that Gibson County has a mental block against Westview. Well give me Maddie Gray and we line up last year and they wouldn't have won a game. Let's see how Westview does this year. Their starting five last year had three transfers in it. Rogers from Obion, Trevathon from Greenfield and Gray from South Fulton. Looks like they swung and missed with the girl from Florida this year so let's see how they do playing with kids from Westview. Gibson County has a really good 7th grade class this year.I have done learned you play with what you got and work them hard and develop them and see what happens. Just keep battling and see what happens. I like our team this year. Very athletic. Every year is the same with injuries and can be catistrophic to any. I watched GC all summer long. South Side and GC was very evenly matched and was a classic war.We had some quality wins this summer. Beat Huntingdon, Henry County, Bowling Green, Liitle Rock Central as well as a couple other quality Kentucky Teams. Westview's talent pool may not be what it has been without transfers the next few. And as far as Wilkins riding off into the sunset, where do y'all seem to think he will leave?? Wilkins is a healthy dude and he loves basketball and loves coaching. I wouldn't be suprised if he coaches a few more years. He loves the game and loves every minute of coaching.
    • I think Gibson County is a top five team this next season but I do agree they will drop off a lot after this year.  Westview lost a ton and will be down this season and hopes of returning to glass house again is slim.  The run they have had is super impressive!
    • My take on GC for this year: Based on what I saw last year and heard this summer, I’m not sure GC could surprise me next year with any outcome. Wilkins is a great coach - they could win the district and region and go to Murfreesboro. They could also come in third in the district and not get out of region. The two returning starters are very talented but Guru is right that they didn’t always play hard last year. The other three starters are good enough in their roles for GC to be successful. There is no depth. Foul trouble could be a problem - Wilkins may avoid it by playing a lot of zone. An injury would be catastrophic. I hope they have a big year and Wilkins rides off into the sunset in Murfreesboro because, without some significant transfers, there are some tough years coming in the next few.
    • Daniel Boone coming down to 3A makes this much tougher. They added a couple transfers to the Flores girl. Cocke Co, Northview, Greeneville, and Daniel Boone - only two headed to Murfreesboro.
