Normally I would just read this shake my head and move along. But this is where the BS meter starts going off and I can’t let it go!  You are stating that he is just recruiting and not a good coach.  But let me clear this up.  There are 2 transfers that are getting playing time this year.  One of them sat out her Jr year because she had problems with previous coach and transferred that summer.  The other moved in over this summer for her senior year.   Not sure why she moved so I won’t comment.

Here are your facts that you are downplaying.  NOT ONE SINGLE transfer played for smith county the past two season which were the most successful in Smith County history.  Not one transfer played when they went to sectional for second time in history and to state tournament last year.    That while being in the same district/region as York with a generational talent like Beaty.  That was all done with Smith County players.  Aren’t they playing with a crap load of sophomores this year?  Now imagine what they would have done if the two girls hadn’t moved to Lebanon before he got there!  They would have been playing for gold ball!  That’s the transfers you should be talking about!  ok rant over.  I am going to Ralph’s….

As someone that has watched SC games for a long time, I am well aware of the banners he's helped put on the wall. I'm also very aware of the path to the glass house since he took this job. Be on the opposite side of York and your chances skyrocket. That's just the name of the game with there being 4 classes and that's no fault of his. I've really tried to take my black and gold glasses off and look at the success for what it is..

Like I mentioned, there are 3 transfers currently playing heavy minutes. One from Macon (sr.), one from RBS (sr.), and one from Trousdale (fr.). For the sophomores question, he typically goes with a rotation of 7. 3 sr, 3 so, and 1 fr. I'm not trying to downplay anything, just stating what I have watched. Recruiter > Developer at this point.

Research how bad Pickett County was before him. The success they are having at the high school right now is in large part to his time and dedication to develop their middle school program. It changed everything for them and now look at that. Far better off when he left it than when he found it.

Umm 2 of those kids were from Fentress Co that should have been at York.   (They lived in FC while attending PC elementary and start of HS, parents have now moved to PC). And if I’m not mistaken he tried extremely hard to get the Beaty girls from Fentress co too and that didn’t pan out.  You take the sisters out of PC equation and they’re as average as every other team in the area.  Still good but no where near what they are now.  Not saying he can’t coach cause he’s one of the best to study and he strategies every part of every team he faces.

Go back WAYYYYY before they entered the equation.

This is correct. I made the exact same observation about 10 or so years ago. I used to watched PC get beat by the Clarkrange's of the world by 30-40 points. Then year after year, there were noticeable changes to the PC program. They started AAU and playing together all the time. Whether that is solely on current SC coach or the fact the players played together ALL the time, I'm not sure. But PC basketball got TONS better once that system was in place.

PC was really really good before the past few years. In 2018 (just 7 years ago), PC had their best chance to win the State Championship before losing a 13 pt lead in the 3rd qtr to the eventual State Champs (Greenfield) that had, I believe, 3 D1 prospects (two played for Tn Vols).

Re-read my comment. Never said the man couldn’t coach. He’s one of the best coaches around but no way he comes into a program and turns it around that quick without some outside help. His AAU program helped him get there.  Can anyone blame him for that, absolutely not. He’s invested his HS down time into getting his girls better by doing that.  Not sure why every coach doesn’t do it.

My post wasn't intended to be argumentative. I hope it didn't come across that way. I was just addressing the PC situation. And not really the SC coach situation.

"You take the sisters out of PC equation and they’re as average as every other team in the area.  Still good but no where near what they are now."

My post before, I said, "Whether that is solely on current SC coach or the fact the players played together ALL the time, I'm not sure. But PC basketball got TONS better once that system was in place."

As for the latter post, I was pointing out the fact PC has been good for a long while now. It is not just the past few years. PC was good years before the Lowe sisters with local talent. However, when they started playing AAU together and pretty much the entire year is when PC starting getting better. Now, like I said previously, whether that is on the current SC coach or just the fact those players started playing together in AAU and ALL the time is to be determine by the reader. As for me, I'm not sure. I just like to watch Lots of Upper Cumberland basketball.

One other thought, I think there may be a disconnect. The current SC high school coach never was the PC high school head coach. He was the AAU/summer ball coach for that area. As for "not sure why every coach doesn't do it," I don't believe the head coaches can coach AAU. I may be wrong on that. But there seems to be a rule in place.

He was not just the AAU/summer ball coach, he was the middle school coach for Pickett County too. There's only one middle school in the county, so he coached every girl who's come thru Pickett County for the past 15 years from 3rd grade all the way thru 8th. He runs training league in Cookeville for the entire Upper Cumberland every fall for kids down to 2nd and 3rd grade. I honestly can't think of anybody who's done more to develop girls basketball in the Upper Cumberland over the past 10-15 years. His success at Smith County is no fluke and shouldn't be a surprise to anybody.

I was meaning he was not the High School coach at PC. I agree with what you say. I've watched many of games in summer in Cookeville, RockyTop, etc. I might be one of the first people back in the day that pointed out the fact the reason PC girls were getting so good was because of the system (and coaching) that the current SC head coach was doing. This was on the upward trajectory of the program.
