Heard today that David Crockett was invited to this year’s tournament and chose to go to Florida.  Obviously Crockett didn’t want to face the tough competition in the Ladies Classic.  They had never been invited so I can’t believe they turned it down.

I would love to know the criteria for tournament participant selection. There are a lot of great teams around East TN that haven't been invited in the past 5 years. There may be some other tournaments in the area that host higher caliber teams.

What you think?

Since you are a fan of Southside, I'm glad you asked.

I believe your team has a chance to make the finals.  I think they might be too much for Webb in the semis (even though Webb did beat Bearden on Wednesday) Then, if they reach the championship, you all will have to beat one of two good teams — either a very good Marist School from Atlanta or another very good school from Bartlett, TN. You may be already familiar with Bartlett, since they are from West TN.

I think SS could win the championship, but they'll definitely need their "A game" in the semis and especially for the championship.

Looking at the website and the field of teams they have. I understand that it is an invitational and your team has to have had a pretty decent record the previous season and/or a college recruit. I have heard about this tournament in the past and it is one of if not the best in the state this time of year.

The track record for the Ladies Classic in Greeneville speaks for itself — 34 years of great women athletes passing through our little town, heading for bigger and better things.

All we can ask for is a chance! Yes I seen Webb is a very good school, per usual! Not familiar with that Atlanta school, but we are very familiar with Bartlett. We have exceeded my expectation in this tournament, so we will see how the rest goes. I am hopeful for another healthy season & I like my chances. And then we will see how it goes come March!

Webb looks like an extremely young team. I'll go out on a limb and pick Southside to win today's game.

You might want to stream both of today's semis. One girl to watch on Marist is #15 Kate Harpring. She is only a sophomore, but, man, she is a great all-around player. Marist beat an extremely good school from Lexington, KY area last night, George Rogers Clark. Best game of the tournament, so far. IMO

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
