Have you ever kicked the hornet's nest down. That's basically what Maryville High School does to its older fans that can't make the trips or can't climb a big steep stadium anymore. You shut the door on their fingers, the fingers that help make this program back in the 50s 60s and 70s. Here's the skinny, if you ain't going to have the dang thing don't advertise it and take people's money and let them find out 5 minutes before kickoff. Is it too hard for someone up there to let everyone know if the game will be shown or not. That's plain and simple cockeyed laziness.

That's a bunch of words that don't answer a simple question

In today’s world, where you’re paying good money to have a “athletic Director“, I think some of the blame needs to go to whoever is in that position. Most sports at 825 seem to be in a decline the last few years. That time frame coincides with the current ADs time. Maybe coincidence? Good luck getting him to call you back.

Which teams are in decline?

Cross country over-performed at the state meet.  Nick has done a very nice job with track.  Volleyball is really good.  Baseball seems to do about what you'd expect in our district with HV & FHS.  Is basketball in decline? Tennis? Golf?

I could’ve been more specific, but did not want to. Yes, the basketball teams have definitely struggled. Hopefully the two new coaches can get it turned around. The baseball team continues to finish in the bottom half of the district culminating with hairtage ending our season last year…f’n hairtage. I don’t keep up with all the stats, but I’m pretty sure the football team has lost more games the last two years than in a whole bunch of years put together. What has changed? The same coaches and the same feeder systems. I don’t think the AD should get a pass. Maybe the answer is two ADs? One over track and one for the primary sports? Who else would be responsible when we have a County track meet and a baseball tournament within 50 yards of each other with only 45 parking spaces? Or baseball players missing graduation if they work hard and get to the substate game? There should be better planning within the sports programs, and IMO the AD plays a role in that. Hopefully he is there to help, and not just count money.

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
