Watched some of the Crockett-Millington game. The Millington QB is a hoss. Thought he was a great runner then he uncorked a couple of pretty TD passes. My guess is that Haywood will be successful if they can keep the QB from beating them by himself.

No doubt you stop their QB it's over. This could be a really fun game to watch.

Millington has had a great season and y'all aren't lying, their QB is a heck of a talent, but do they have enough to stop Haywood? My guess would be no, especially looking at the fact that they have to go to Haywood and get a victory. Playing in Haywood can be tough, especially during the playoffs. I like the Tomcats to win and advance with a score margin of at least 17 points. :thumb:

I can’t say much more than what has already been said.  Millington’s quarterback is an outstanding player, but the Trojans have some other outstanding athletes as well.

Haywood is going to have to put together 4 quarters and limit the penalties.  I think the two teams look evenly matched.  But with rain in Friday’s forecast, a wet field could affect the outcome.

On paper, it looks as if Haywood might have a slight advantage.  But as we all know, the game is not played on paper.

A few stats, facts and predictions:

Haywood is averaging 40.9 ppg while giving up an average of 23.45 (Average margin of victory 16.54).
Millington is averaging 30.27 ppg while giving up an average 19.73 (Average margin of victory 10.55).

Both teams have identical 9-2 records.
Haywood’s 2 losses were to 6A Oakland (6-48) and to 4A Hardin Co. (35-42).  The combined record of those two teams is 20-2.
Millington’s 2 loses were to 5A Munford (14-42) and to 4A Melrose (10-45).  The combined record of those two teams is 16-6.

Haywood’s opponents have a 54-63 won/loss record.
Millington’s opponents have a 45-71 won/loss record.

Haywood and Millington have 3 common opponents:
Haywood defeated 4A Fayette Ware 48-6 while Millington defeated the Wildcats 40-0.
Haywood defeated 4A Crockett Co. 28-23 while Millington defeated the Cavaliers 38-34.
Haywood defeated 4A Kirby 44-0 while Millington defeated the Cougars 31-0.

This will be the 13th meeting between Haywood and Millington.  Haywood leads the series 9-3.

Haywood’s power rating is 121.30.  Millington’s power rating is 113.69.  With 2 points for HFA, that would make Haywood about a 9–10-point favorite.
Cal-Prep predicts a score of Haywood 41, Millington 26.
Massey predicts a score of Haywood,42, Millington 19.

@CHARGERFAN, please keep us posted on anything the Daily Memphian might have to say concerning this game as we get closer to game day.

Hey @MarkH, I’m sorry for waiting so long to respond, but I had to do some other things.  Thanks for contacting and correcting me.  It appears I’m missing the 1937 game.

I got my information from the site below.

https://ghsfha.org/w/Special:THSFHS/school/teams/Millington_Central/2023

Click on records underneath the title Millington Central Trojans, then click opposing programs. Scroll down the list until you get to Haywood.  Then click the arrow to the left of the name Haywood.  You should get a list giving you the date, location, and score for all the games between Millington Central and Haywood.

I know these sites make mistakes, and I do too.  Thanks once again for correcting me.  Good luck to your Trojans and to the Tomcats as well.  Will the Millington Star publish any pregame info about the game?  If so, I’d love to hear what they say.  I’m big on what the opposing side has to say!

What was the date of the 1937 game?  Looking through 100 Years of Haywood Tomcat Football by Dr. Robert Rooks, I see a 10 game schedule that does not include Millington.  The Tomcats were 3-6-1 in 1937.

09/17   Bolivar             13-7
09/24   Jackson            0-46
10/01   Greenfield       19-2
10/08   Halls                7-40
10/15   Chester Co.     18-0
10/21   Humboldt        0-0
10/29   Milan               6-18
11/05   Fayette Co.      0-12
11/12   Ripley              0-33
11/25   Byars-Hall       0-47

Of course, this information could be wrong too.

1927?! Wow. That’s a lot of games played between two teams so far apart. Love hearing old stats, data, records or whatever you want to call it from local and neighboring county high schools.

Those were the days when the game was over you folded your helmet up and put it in your back pocket. I enjoy this stuff as well.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
