Bearden Bulldogs 2024

The old head coach relieved his duties and became the athletic director, (for the second time), and the former athletic director hired Jones before the former HC took the position (for the second time). Jones has really only worked for one AD since the former AD was in the position during his first spring semester but not regular season. The Bball coach was on the interview committee because the AD change was imminent. Just so happened his son was the freshman QB that year.

Did the basketball coach even have enough pull and influence to dictate the hire?

Coach Parent definitely has a word in the athletic department at Bearden, how important basketball is at Bearden and what he has done with it. He definitely has a word or two about what goes on.

I mean, I doubt it, but then again, his son is the starting quarterback on the football team, so maybe, there was also an athletic director change when Coach Jones was hired, so I really don’t know if it was the old athletic director who hired Coach Jones or the current athletic director because, if I remember correctly, there was no sitting athletic director when Coach Jones was hired, so maybe he had a word in it.

Our old athletic director was the one who hired Coach Jones. It was not until about 5 months later that our former football coach and former athletic director, before becoming football coaches, would become the new athletic director.

Jones was hired in December 10th

Shinlever was hired as AD in May 12th

Actually, Knox County Schools hired JJ.

Knox County Schools are responsible for final  decision of hiring and firing. Knox County Schools didn't pick Coach Jones from a bunch of candidates/applicants for the HFBC job. All the other previously mentioned people had more of a hand in it than KCS. The major player was the booster club/parent$ person/persons.

You could have quit after your first sentence.

Justin Underwood, Jeremy Parrott, Ryan Radcliffe and Donald Balcom hired Jones. Justin, Jeremy and Ryan have made their living off of recruiting and Donald fan boy’d it into existence for football. Even though his hire violated KCS school board procedure.

I’ve read some pretty stupid stuff on this website, but this takes the cake hands-down.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
