New High School in Maury County in 2024

Recommended Posts

It looks like they will catch a break and not have to play a varsity schedule in the first year. I remember when Summit opened with just freshmen and sophomores they were at the start of the two year cycle. They were put in the district with Giles County, Lewis County, etc. It was brutal. IIRC Independence opened in the middle of the cycle and got to ease into football with a JV schedule only the first year.

This will also affect Spring Hill HS in two years sending them back down to 4A or maybe even 3A for a bit. The re-zoning for BCHS is going to take a big bite out of their population.

If they go to the four year cycle I don't think it harms them. In a two year cycle they'd play one year of JV only and then move to a varsity schedule with juniors and sophomores. Next year is year two of the current cycle. BC would just need to find some schools willing to add an extra JV game on to the schedule. This is what happened to Independence. I think Ravenwood as well. So it would be no different whether it's a two or four year cycle. They will be playing a full varsity schedule in their second year regardless.

Battle Creek Bears will get mercy ruled next season. I guarantee it. It will happen. They will not have any 11th or 12th graders to help them win games right now. I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.

Thanks Mr. Obvious

Honestly think new schools should be ineligible from scheduling Varsity competition until they have all 4 grades. Unless it's a situation like LC where the whole county board is all in on seeing them succeed,  first 2 years are gonna be rough

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
