Thanks to the people that voted for Clemer for the head coaching job at Greenback.

The way people talked about it before football started made it seem like people were getting out of dodge but now it could become a worse shipwreck that stays sunk for a while.

This will be the 68th year of Greenback Football if it makes it which looks very shakey, One day your state champions and a few years later because of a crooked school board member that uses his extra powers to buffalo a new school principal and another school board member into hiring a personal friend that was fired as an assistant coach there only to become the head coach the next year. I'm not going beat up the coach because he does want to be at Greenback  but took the worst road to get there. This is why parents that can make a move and get their kids to another school have left. Enough kids may have left that it could make the safety of the remaining kids a big question mark. After the last hire that didn't work out someone should have had enough sence to relaize Greenback fans wanted nothing to do with an outsider as head coach. I hope I I'm wrong but have to many contacts telling the same story.

I know you know this but i'll remind folks its not just "a" school board member... it was our own freaking spineless school board member, staff and admin. Its cancer head to toe! But you are correct about the safety of kids, I had a parent express that to me last week. About 20 kids playing it sounds like right now.

But also i dont think it was much of an outsider issue as it was EXPERIENCE (obviously G was my first pick) but I do think we would have been really happy with that one coach that fell through just my 2 cents though. Gonna be interesting to see how things play out. Football was a $$$ maker over there, til a few yrs ago. We'll see what happens in a few weeks!

Anyone know who Greenback scrimmages date and time. Most of my connections there jumped ship and say it's a sore subject and want nothing to do with it any longer until things change.

I'll try to find out.Looks like 19 kids.1 Sr.3 Jrs rest Sophmores and Freshmen.3 of the kids in the upper classes have never played before.Looks like maybe 15 usable kids, maybe.Im worried about injuries to the young ones and then them continuing to play. The first 3 games is alot to ask of a Freshman.Winning a game looks to be a long shot.We may go in the hole paying refs.Man just a handful of years ago and we where hosting and beating South Pitt standing room only!Hard to think we can get the kids to stay without getting a capable head coach!

I feel like 19 is a number lots of 1A schools make work but with the nature of their non conference games and some of the teams in their conference I could definitely see it taking a physical toll on a team of primarily underclassmen.

As small of a school as we are and also Coalfield 2 of the smallest in 1A,we both average in the mid 30s every year.Hard to sustain a season with 17 to 20 kids and we usually try to play a tough schedule.I have a feeing this new guy will change that also to chase easy wins. But if the kids won't play for him then I guess that's understandable.I just don't understand how the administration can't see this current situation will not work and is quickly killing a Great program.

That first three games will be a slaughter house for a team with 19 players and green as a gord with very little or no game experience. I would throw in the towel on the Loudon game and let the big Loudon fan on the school board have to explain to everyone that has paid up front for season tickets what he did to create this mess. They most likely will lose a player or two before the season even starts over injuries or another couple of parents refuse to let their kid be a guinea pig. Take a 0-1 forfeit as to get bashed into the ground 0-90 not to mention the possible injuries. Coach Clemer needs to accept the fact it will never get better and to keep hanging on is pretty much just pissing in the wind right back at him. They're going to be setting in Greenback without a football team before this ride is over if it keeps the same course.

    • Worst thing SC could do is get rid of Dyer. I agree with everything said above.
    • Jada Hart, Jasmine Bailey and Kaitlyn Patterson the first two being PG's are all good guards and can handle ball pressure and are good players. Raven Wells will be a good post. There were games this summer where any one of the one's I mentioned were in double figures. Gibson County will control TO's much better this year and they will press more and get back to playing faster. AA is down across the board. I have been all over watching ball. Alcoa jumped to AAA and Jackson County moved down. to A. No telling who wins it this year. I agree Union City, Westview and Gibson County will be a dogfight and must see basketball. Poster insuated that Gibson County has a mental block against Westview. Well give me Maddie Gray and we line up last year and they wouldn't have won a game. Let's see how Westview does this year. Their starting five last year had three transfers in it. Rogers from Obion, Trevathon from Greenfield and Gray from South Fulton. Looks like they swung and missed with the girl from Florida this year so let's see how they do playing with kids from Westview. Gibson County has a really good 7th grade class this year.I have done learned you play with what you got and work them hard and develop them and see what happens. Just keep battling and see what happens. I like our team this year. Very athletic. Every year is the same with injuries and can be catistrophic to any. I watched GC all summer long. South Side and GC was very evenly matched and was a classic war. Hope all stays healthy.
    • I think Gibson County is a top five team this next season but I do agree they will drop off a lot after this year.  Westview lost a ton and will be down this season and hopes of returning to glass house again is slim.  The run they have had is super impressive!
    • My take on GC for this year: Based on what I saw last year and heard this summer, I’m not sure GC could surprise me next year with any outcome. Wilkins is a great coach - they could win the district and region and go to Murfreesboro. They could also come in third in the district and not get out of region. The two returning starters are very talented but Guru is right that they didn’t always play hard last year. The other three starters are good enough in their roles for GC to be successful. There is no depth. Foul trouble could be a problem - Wilkins may avoid it by playing a lot of zone. An injury would be catastrophic. I hope they have a big year and Wilkins rides off into the sunset in Murfreesboro because, without some significant transfers, there are some tough years coming in the next few.
    • Daniel Boone coming down to 3A makes this much tougher. They added a couple transfers to the Flores girl. Cocke Co, Northview, Greeneville, and Daniel Boone - only two headed to Murfreesboro.
