Week 4: Jefferson County at Dobyns-Bennett

It would seem that DB just rolls through Jefferson Co by 2 or 3 scores.      But I dunno, DB's 2 wins are against very mediocre teams and JeffCo's 2 losses are against decent teams.       Word on the street is that JC is very tough in the trenches but soft everywhere else.       We can't have a tie anymore, right?

My prediction was so wrong last week I think I'll just call this one a toss-up. I don't think anybody can say DB played well in it's first two games. Seems like WR laid an egg last week so I still don't know if DB has picked up the pace. Science Hill is supposed to be the elephant in the room this year, but they only beat Jeff. Co. by 6 at home. So, I don't see how everybody all of the sudden is trying to say Jeff. Co. is in trouble. Sounds to me like if their QB can get it together, they would roll. And as everybody knows, DB can make an average QB look like a Heisman Canidate. Jeff. Co. has a very good offensive like.

Blaze might be on to something when he said SH gets in their own way, SH defense only gave up 7. Jeff County had one good drive where their Rb ran it down Sh throat. 14-7 with 2 minutes left before halftime JC backed up punted almost from their end zone but two personal fouls on the same drive kept it from Sh blowing it open before the half. Sh goes up 20-7 then Jc returns the kickoff and it's 20-14. Sh missed a fg and then threw an interception in the end zone, that game had a 30-7 feel but Sh gets in their own way. Jc has a good rb I would favor them slightly over Db

I think this will be a close game between two region opponents, dobyns Bennett with wins over west ridge and Farragut, with a loss to 4a powerhouse Greeneville. Jeff county with a win over oak ridge and two losses one too rival Sevier county and another to a team in their region in a close one.  With that knowledge in mind, I'll make my prediction on this game, Final score:

Kingsport 28

Jeff Co 24

Jeff Co is struggling on both sides of the ball and kicking game. Punter had punts of 3,7, and 9 yards last week. The offense is one dimensional. They cannot throw the ball consistently. Play calling is very suspect. Best skill guy gets 5 touches a game. On defense, they miss the 4 SR linebackers from last year. The secondary’s inability to cover is only overshadowed by the unwillingness to tackle. Not a good team right now.

How will they fair against the 85 time Kingsport City champs and perineal preseason state champs? I don’t think they can score enough to win

“We need J. Fred to be rocking Friday night,” Christian said. “Our kids need the support. I think they’ve shown in our two home games we’re an exciting team to watch … The bigger crowd we have, the better it’s going to be.”

How well does Jefferson County travel?      Sounds like this will be a highly charged atmosphere

Use to travel very well. There will be a decent crowd that comes up 81.

    • Looks like our first three games will be some tough competition. We are predicted to win against 1A Chattanooga prep and expected to lose the next two games against 5A East Hamilton and 2A York Institute. I've looked at Yorks schedule and they will have had the hardest schedule I've seen in a while for a 2A team. They will either be battle tested end of season or playing the water boys due to everyone being hurt.  The Chattanooga Prep team played Boyd Buchanan much closer than I would have thought on last years schedule, so I expect that to be a hard game for us as well if we can pull it out.  These predictions are Massey's and not mine just a fyi.
    • Age wise correct! His som  will play somewhere small and maybe he will just wanna be a dad!Caine puts in more time than mist may wanna re charge for few years!
    • I think you are right on the money with these predictions.  You seem well versed in West TN high school football.  I’d like to hear your predictions and thoughts for 1A region 6 if you would be willing.
    • I have heard another one after that is possible.  Still though it’s hard to see any school system justify spending money on a field upgrade for an existing school while building a new school. Going to turf and the stadium upgrade would be a large investment. I looked it up and turf starts at 250K and up.
    • 1 new HS schefuled in 3-4 years. On the White County side of Cookeville. It will essentially split the Cookeville HS school population from 2200 to two schools of 1100. Probably like two 1250 by the time they build it.
