UT Coaching Changes?

Anyone who watched the game last night has to be extremely upset with the amount of mental mistakes that Tennessee made. What's more is that this has been what we have seen all year long. From personal fouls and illegal formations to wasted time-outs, I have been shocked at how poorly coached these kids have been this year.

Even with the injuries, you can at least teach the kids how to line up properly.

Sanders and Chavis should be looking over their shoulders.

What do you think?

I agree with all of your points!

How many more times will we see toss sweep on 3rd and 4th down with 2 yards or less to gain. We run that play almost everytime in short yardage situations. I remember 2 stuffs from Florida against it; one of which gave them the ball back for the touchdown winning drive two years ago!

Phil has to pull the trigger, or he will be the one looking down the wrong end of the barrel.

There will be only minimal changes. Sanders and Chavis are both probably safe, from everything that's being said in the Knoxville media. One of the strength/line coaches may get the axe, but that's about it. Fulmer will likely continue to campaign for, and subsequently receive, a raise.

My friend on the football team says that Sanders is not the one calling the plays...its Fulmer! He said the players love Sanders actually and the only game where he has really called the majority of the plays was against Michigan last year. Fulmer is calling the majority of the plays and started doing so in the summer prior to this season. The reason? He could take credit for the offensive fireworks that would take place...and subsequently get a raise.

I talked bad about Sanders just like you all...but my friend told me it was just a common misconception. He said the problems mostly lied in Fulmer not getting the players ready...during halftime of the Rutgers game...all he really said was "We are going to open it up a little bit." And they started playing better...I wish UT had gotten John Thompson former defensive coach at Arkansas, Memphis, Southern Miss. and now the current coach at ECU. He could have really helped us out.

I think that Sanders has had his chance and he's blown it...let us all remember that Chavis had more injuries on his side of the ball than Sanders did (although 'The Past' was one of the injuries).

Swamp,

While I hope you are not right, you probably are!

However, his loyalty will probably be his undoing. I think he needs to drop the axe on Sanders and Chavis. In thinking that, I am hoping that at least one will be gone.

    • Worst thing SC could do is get rid of Dyer. I agree with everything said above.
    • Jada Hart, Jasmine Bailey and Kaitlyn Patterson the first two being PG's are all good guards and can handle ball pressure and are good players. Raven Wells will be a good post. There were games this summer where any one of the one's I mentioned were in double figures. Gibson County will control TO's much better this year and they will press more and get back to playing faster. AA is down across the board. I have been all over watching ball. Alcoa jumped to AAA and Jackson County moved down. to A. No telling who wins it this year. I agree Union City, Westview and Gibson County will be a dogfight and must see basketball. Poster insuated that Gibson County has a mental block against Westview. Well give me Maddie Gray and we line up last year and they wouldn't have won a game. Let's see how Westview does this year. Their starting five last year had three transfers in it. Rogers from Obion, Trevathon from Greenfield and Gray from South Fulton. Looks like they swung and missed with the girl from Florida this year so let's see how they do playing with kids from Westview. Gibson County has a really good 7th grade class this year.I have done learned you play with what you got and work them hard and develop them and see what happens. Just keep battling and see what happens. I like our team this year. Very athletic. Every year is the same with injuries and can be catistrophic to any. I watched GC all summer long. South Side and GC was very evenly matched and was a classic war. Hope all stays healthy.
    • I think Gibson County is a top five team this next season but I do agree they will drop off a lot after this year.  Westview lost a ton and will be down this season and hopes of returning to glass house again is slim.  The run they have had is super impressive!
    • My take on GC for this year: Based on what I saw last year and heard this summer, I’m not sure GC could surprise me next year with any outcome. Wilkins is a great coach - they could win the district and region and go to Murfreesboro. They could also come in third in the district and not get out of region. The two returning starters are very talented but Guru is right that they didn’t always play hard last year. The other three starters are good enough in their roles for GC to be successful. There is no depth. Foul trouble could be a problem - Wilkins may avoid it by playing a lot of zone. An injury would be catastrophic. I hope they have a big year and Wilkins rides off into the sunset in Murfreesboro because, without some significant transfers, there are some tough years coming in the next few.
    • Daniel Boone coming down to 3A makes this much tougher. They added a couple transfers to the Flores girl. Cocke Co, Northview, Greeneville, and Daniel Boone - only two headed to Murfreesboro.
