yeah, ok, so I forgot there were fifty others. I remember 0 playing JCS in bball. Our old football coach went there. How could I forget Boyd. I watched them play in football championship on TV. I thought NCS was too, but I didn't really know about Col. Acad. Sorry bout that, I guess my brain was dead last night. Just thinking Memphis and Nashville.

I Know at Knoxville Catholic we teach about evolution in Biology and the earth is millions of years old, and that dinos and other creaturesn lived and died. In Cathoic schools kids are taught that there is no conflict between faith and reason. Our kids are taught not to take the bible literaly. God created man and evolution is the way he went about it, how could he create the universe in 7 days when the sun wasn't put up until the 3rd day or so, was it a 24 hour day? We may make our kids wear dumb uniforms and stand when adults enter the classroom, but we do try to teach them to think and live good lives.

robjim told me about this post last night. Are you implying that we are dinosaurs? Is that an insult?

Come on VG, You've met Bighurt and Robjim, I'd say we have more than our fair share in Middle Tennessee.

Middle Tennessee Christian School in Murfreesboro, Boyd Christian School in McMinnville, Friendship Christian School near Lebanon, Boyd Buchanan School in Chattanooga are at least a few other schools affiliated with churches of Christ that I know about. There may be one in Knoxville that is not TSSAA affiliated -- West Knoxville Christian??? Not sure about that one.

Gross misrepresentation? Perhaps not, but a few misrepresentations that are too cavalier in the presentation of Catholic teaching and tradition.

1) Let's start with creation...

"God created man and evolution is the way he went about it...." Says who? Evolutionary science has undergone major upheavals over the past few decades, and all the old, once-accepted theories are discredited and dead. Evolutionary science at this point in history is not much more refined than the flat-earth theory was 500 years ago.

"How could he create the universe in 7 days when the sun wasn't put up until the 3rd day or so, was it a 24 hour day?" This guy is not a plasma physicist, obviously, since physics proves that light existed before the sun and other stars.

The Bible does not teach evolution. To quote a Catholic Catechism, "The Bible to be sure, does not teach evolution; neither does it say anything to oppose scientific theories about bodily evolution."

FYI - Although faith and reason are basically in harmony, faith is always above reason. No one knows when time and creation began...no one can categorically denounce the simple seven day theory.

Last I knew, God can do whatever He wants. Bottom line is that no one, no scientist anywhere, knows how life and the emergence of species came to be. Scientists don't even know how the sense of smell works!

2) The Catholic Church does not interpret the Bible literally...

"Our kids are taught not to take the bible literally." Why? This is contrary to Church teaching. Name another faith, in addition to the Greek Orthodox who takes the Bible literally -- "This is My Body...."

Scripture, tradition and the teaching authority of the Catholic Church are all important. To neglect one of these is to reject catholic teaching.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
