Marion County won a title in 1990. I watched that team beat Alcoa 42-14 at Alcoa. Alcoa was defending state champs also.

They were runner up in 1982 and 1984. The 1984 Marion County team beat Maryville 14-13 in the semifinals for the right to face Marshall County for the state title.

Maryville has proven that it is the best ball team in the state with multiple championships. The key is the coaching staff there at Maryville. They are a class act group of guys. Their system is simple to learn, but complicated to defend. They pick apart opponents and this past state game versus a more athletic team and being down 14 points to come back just shows how good and how much tradition they have

Maryville is not overated just look at the numbers 4 out of 5 state titles. That is incredible, that a program has done that. Many schools have never won state titles or even region titles. If you have wondered why Maryville is so good it is simple they are a family. Just think if you make a post talking trash about Maryville look at the response. Maryville wins because from players and coaches to parents they all stick together. So my hat is off to Maryville's football program.

Human psychology is an amazing thing. I will never understand why some people can only make themselves feel better about their teams/themselves by attacking and attempting to tear down the succesful. I've come to understand that it's a badge of honor to be attacked on these boards, and the more vitriolic the diatribes, the more honor that accrues.

I'm not a Maryville fan, but you have to respect their accomplishments.

    • Dyersburg is going to be good, really good. As mentioned, they have a lot of talent on the way and the trio of Chelby, Joya, and KayKay will only be better with a full season together under their belt. To me, playing in Murfreesboro two consecutive postseasons will only serve to make them more dangerous if/when they stand among the final eight teams this March. Experience, good or bad, always makes you better. And not only do they have experience, they know how to win there. Schedules are coming together for all of the teams and I am excited about what I am seeing on the preliminary drafts on Dyersburg’s schedule. I know I am being a tease, but it’s simply not my place to announce what another school is doing. With that said, I won’t go into specifics. However, I am excited about renewed home and away contracts for the non-district portion of the calendar. I think west Tennessee will have a lot of interest as well.
    • What does everyone have in the final 8? In no particular order. 1. Eagleville 2. Gordonsville 3. Greenback 4. Oakdale 5. South Pitt/ East Robertson-- not sure 6. Richland 7. Halls 8. Union City
    • They struggled to field a team last year. I don’t see them being much better?
    • sx good two know thay didun't waint that entarr citty two see yeller/red......
    • Couldn’t agree more.. Tate is a special kinda player , but fortunately for us we get a best of 3 series. I think our pitching is better than last year when we made the trip to west tn. Should be a fun 2 or 3 games.
