Bearden 4-1.

Im disappointed in the lack of storied traditional state teams at state this year. Bearden, Houston, and Farragut seem to be the only big programs their. I thought state being re-done was supposed to bring more big programs and better competition. Im not trying to be negative to the other schools that made it (Congrats to them and good luck), just wondering what happened to Brentwood, Hendersonville, Germantown, Clarksville, Franklin, Gallatin, Science Hill, and other traditional powerhouses in the state of soccer. Hope the teams there make it a great tournament.

Maybe it's not that the "bigger" schools are getting worse, but that the other schools are catching up. Every year brings in new players and teams that werent as good get better. I think the new state tournament bracket gets more teams involved and helps create better competition. Personally I love seeing underdog teams play in the state tournament, rather than teams that make it to Spring Fling every single year.

Hey Bhs, do you want to know why those teams are not there this year?

because they lost

Brentwood and Clarksville lost to Smyrna, Gallation didn't even make it out of their district, nor did Franklin, and Science Hill lost to Farragut. Traditional powerhouses always fall eventually, and if you don;t win, you don't make it in. Simple as that.

I think it is a good thing. What it means is that soccer is growing. More schools are fielding better teams. It can do nothing but enhance the sport in Tennessee.

Well put. The teams that got beat have nothing to be ashamed of. They have great programs, but now that some of the other not so well known schools are advancing, this can only help soccer in general. They lost probably because on this particular day they were not the better team. They should not have underestimated anybody especially this far along in the tournament. I know Hendersonville, Clarksville, and Brentwood are great teams, probably better than some of the teams still alive in the tournament, but thats why they play the games. To see who is better on that particular day. I know everybody figured the midstate would still have Brentwood, Hendersonville, and Clarksville still alive. Instead they have Centennial, Columbia and Smyrna. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. congrats to Smyrna. They beat two really great teams to get to the final 8. Also to Centennial for beating Hendersonville. Columbia didnt have such a hard road to travel but we still had to beat a couple of teams that beat us quite convincingly during the season. Lets go represent the midstate the best we can.

I think that Bearden is going out to make a statement in their game tomorrow. They are going to show everyone that they are the two-time defending state champions and are ready for #3. Matt Herbstritt scores two goals, Victor Upshaw scores two, and Dale gets the last in a 5-0 game completely dominated by the Bulldogs.
