Williamson ( brentwod Academy , Brentwood .etc. ) 2. Rutherford ( murfreesboro central in the 50s,60s, rivedale, oakland) 3. Davidson ( private schools rule plus pearl cohn , hilsboro , etc ) 4. Shelby ( memphis schools ) 5. Bradley ( clevelands run , bradley high in the 60s and 70s ) 6. Oak Ridge ( dont know the county , is it anderson ) *** any other thoughts ***
Blue21SallyAt7
Blount County Alcoa 5 Maryville
Budrock
Wouldn't Blount County be in the mix? Alcoa has 5 championships and Maryville has several. Walland also had at least one before it was consolidated into Heritage. Very interesting subject.

Baldcoach
I would bet that they are all metro counties or right next to a metro county. Which brings up an interesting thought...perhaps it really is a metro vs nonmetro issue?
silverpie
Looking at all sports, there is a tremendous dominance by six counties--the big four plus two of Nashville's neighbors (Williamson and Rutherford). And seventh on the list is a county with the sometimes largest high school in the state (Bradley Central).
Dalton91
Wouldn't these six or seven metro counties also make up close to 70% of the state's population? if so, then wouldn't also make sense they would win 70% of the championships? In 1A there are few, if any, metro public schools. Do metro public schools have an advantage over rural publics in 3A and up? If so, then shouldn't a multiplier apply to ALL urban schools and not just the privates?
CoachT
I would bet that they are all metro counties or right next to a metro county. Which brings up an interesting thought...perhaps it really is a metro vs nonmetro issue? ...and there is also the issue of how many of these are from a combined city AND county school district, not just county. silverpie
Of the "big six" counties, four have single school systems. Williamson has a "special district" which is like a city district for Franklin, but only at K-8 level. In Shelby, there's the Memphis City system and the county system, both of which contribute to the total.
