Well, seeing who asked these questions, the obvious and correct response will be:

Best offensive backfield? Maryville's latest!

Best Offensive line? Maryville's latest!

Best receivers? Maryville's latest!

Best Defensive line? Maryville's latest!

Best linebackers? Maryville's latest!

Best Secondary? Maryville's latest!

Don't have to see them to know!

:P

best WR - franklin 2002

best DL - riverdale 2001/2002

best LB - cleveland 1993

best Sec. - not real sure

Thanks for giving props to my Rebs. I don't know if they're the best (2002 or 2003) but they certainly have to be up there somewhere.

knowing coach meadows, and the athletes he had at his disposal at alcoa in 2000 when they won the state title, i would put my money on the alcoa tornado offense of 2000.  they took a ball control offense and averaged less than 3 minutes a drive, for the entire season.  the state champion 4X1 relay team was in the backfield, plus they had 3-5 other guys would could flat out FLY!!  scott also told me that their secondary wasnt too shaby that year either, only giving up 75 yards or more 1 time the whole season.  they had 2 all state players in the secondary.  one had 5 picks, the other 8.

guru,

i think im going to have to agree w/you on your statement. rainer and sankey (4.3), meschendorf and robinson (4.4) davis and george (4.5) and harris (4.6). im partial b/c i was part of the prolific attack!! :D as you said, the wing-t is a ball control offense, but the athletes we had turned it into a quick strike, fun to watch offense. the secondary wasnt too shaby either, if i do say so myself!

my pick for the best linebacking corps would be the 1989 tornadoes. Shannon Mitchell (UGA), Jamie Henry (UT), Chad Smith (MTSU). Saw Mitchell and Henry send 2 Rule High players to the hospital in one game, ouch.......... :D

I must agree with missingthesouth, at least on the best LBs. Todd Collins(USA Today national player of the year) and David Satterfield were a great pair of 50 LBers. Both well over 100 tackles and caused numerous turnovers. The offensive backfield of Taylor Quarles(Furman), Kenny Mattison (MTSU), Darren Cunningham (MTSU) and Eric Carter (UTC) was dynamic as well.

Yet also a team whose only loss came during the regular season to MBA, who didn't even win the DII title that year (Father Ryan did with a 12-0 record).

Note............I said the most tallented but not the best coached or the most disciplined. John Henderson was unstopable when he wanted to be. Against Maryville in the state game Pearl Cohn had 186 yards in penalities. Maryville was fortunte to make it to the state that year.

best specialists- Hendersonville (2000)- had both Wilhoit and Bliss kickin' deep

Kody Bliss didn't play for Hendersonville, he played for Brentwood Academy from 1999-2002. The '99-'02 Eagles easily take my special teams cake, with John Vaughn kicking (5th best all-time nationally) and Kody Bliss punting (53 yards per punt as a junior, 51 as a senior). Both started as freshmen at Auburn, and will start again this coming year.
