otis
There are many other great backfields that I'm sure will be discussed. But the Stratford backfield of 1992 was unbelievable. Old fashioned, hard-nosed, never pass, come right at you offense. Gregory Young, Erik Gardner, Arcentae Broome, and Michael Coleman combined for over 5000 yards rushing. Three of them went over 1000 yards and two averaged over 10 yards per carry for the season. They went undefeated, winning each game by at least 4 touchdowns. They defeated a fine MBA team in the first round of the playoffs with relative ease. Then lost in the mud to Henry County in a terrible upset during a flood. Only mother nature could stop those backs!
rhshasbeen66
the '94 backfield of Riverdale--corey carney(qb) marcus smith(fb) alvin duke(tb). this team as a whole was one of the best that tn has ever seen, but their backfield was amazing, considering that in addition to these cats, there was a freshman that played a little in the backfield too that went by the name of, oh what was his name, that's right--eric locke. this Riverdale backfield was close to unstoppable. SCRAPPY
Maplewood ('79) Al Young and Thomas Goodlow. Overton ('81-'82) Fruit Bell, Keith Davis and Phil Hord. Stratford (circa '88) Joe Campbell, Robert Downing with Corey Fleming at QB. Antioch ('03-'04) Coker and Preston Brown. Hillsboro ('02-'03) Calvin Bryant, Marcellus Tibbs, Tim Gray
bhsOL
I definitely have to agree with rhshasbeen66. The '94 Riverdale backfield was awesome. But on he left out was the 2001 Riverdale team: Marcus King (fb) and Ralph King (tb) and Stephen Britton (qb) could run good when he had to. What do you think?
shadow
The backfield trio from Hunters Lane Reggie Grimes, Eric Scivally, and Jahi Henley all having over 1100 yards each was one of the best in this area.

What do you think? Coach 763, I saw that team play several times, courtesy of some "Timmy Ray tickets", and they were increbible. Their stats, just like those of the 1977-79 Al Young and Thomas Goodloe Maplewood teams, were somewhat penalized because they rarely played much in the second half of games, due to blowouts. Coach763, which of those backfields of Maplewood's was better - Brown/Gipson or Young/Goodloe? Edited July 8, 2004 by otis

Coach763, which of those backfields of Maplewood's was better - Brown/Gipson or Young/Goodloe? Both were very good but I would have to say Brown/Gipson simply because there was also Tony Rowland and he is probably the best "unknown" back ever in Nashville. However........when Goodloe and Young were rambling; the 2nd best backfield those years were probably their backups----Flash Gordan and Gary Fox. The Stratford group was also awesome; with more power than the Maplewood groups. There have been some good groups but these 3 groupings would be hard to match. but that is only my opinion! Two losses on the year, both to state champions Lincoln County. Second in the semifinals of the state.
