Tullahoma's got the pot!

I think it was one of the best Coffee Pot games I have ever seen. Neither team needs to hang their head about this one. There is one thing that will never happen in the Coffee Pot Game, and that is a tie. Somebody has got to take the Coffee Pot and this year it was Tullahoma. I'm sure every player and coach on Tullahoma's team knows that they played a very talented Coffee County team and Coffee County now knows that Tullahoma is better than they thought. I believe also that this is the first time that Coach Olive has won a game over Coach Price....ever. Congrats to Coach Olive & the THS Wildcats and to Coach Price and the CCHS Red Raiders. I was proud of both teams and I have lived in both towns. There is a difference in both towns, but I can appreciate both of them. Both have their good points & both have their bad ones. My dream is still to see one High School in Coffee County. Can you say "Riverdale Beater"

i could care less about the talking, but when people jump other people... especially girls from the other school simply because they are from another school, that makes me angry. Ive heard a few rumors over the last couple days and i know that some are true. Beating up girls... who has more class now? By the way, Tullahoma is a dirty team to play, come to our field and try to pull some of the stuff you got away with at your stadium... Im not using it as an excuse... you guys beat us, but we didnt play dirty...

it was a great game but it was a game that could have easily been won for cc on the cc drive at the end of the game cc should have given it to nunley he was like an automatic td machine all night don't throw an interception let #1 run all over tull like he did all night o and ask the back-stabber #2 how it felt when nunley put him on his back. sipe walked in for the conversion like tull was asleep he could have crawled to the endzone. where was #6's trash talking was when he got schooled? tull did play dirty all night and the officals where aparently from tull because cc had horrid spots all night and there where several blocks in the back, face mask and late hits not called on tull i was on the cc sideline and could see all the tull cheap shots :D

Last year, 8500 people were at the Coffee Pot game in Manchester which is probably more than there were in 1997 due to the fact that the "new" home side wasn't built yet. With the "new" home side, the stadium seats about 7500 and they assumed about 1000 were on the fence that night. I was told that 7000 people came to the THS/Franklin County game and that the Coffee Pot turnout looked similar to the FCHS game. So, for the sake of argument, I would say between 7000 and 7500 were at this year's game.

Decent write up on the game at the 101.5FM website. Here's the address if anyone wants to read it.

Sounds like a sore looser. Cheated by the officials, dirty play by opponent, should have could have. Sounds like the CC of old. I thought Price had taken excuses out of this program. It's time to move on, put the game behind you and get ready for a big region game. Cheap talk don't sound any better after a game than it does the week before.

i wasn't making excuses for the team they lost i was just stating facts in response from the fact all you tull plebians(i know you'll have to get out your dictionary) where making it sound like #2 was the best thing since sliced bread when nunley is a much better back and in fact had 70 more yards than #2 cc does need to look to next week it will be a tough game but i think they will come out on top we'll worry about tull next year thumb

and i'm positive tull has never trash talked anybody hve they

Coffee County talk is only cheap when it is said in a vile and irresponsible way.  That is the kind of treatment I had to endure from some jerks from Tullahoma back when I was attending Coffee County a few years back including back in 1996 when one of Tullahoma's best teams ever fell at Wilkins Stadium to Coffee County.  And in 1997, the Tullahoma fans tried to tear down Manchester's goal post after the fluke victory there.  That was extremely classless of Tullahoma--the game back in '97 in Manchester, not in Tullahoma.  So T-Town has their fair share of cheap talkers and classless fans, not just Coffee.

Okay, looking at this game it is clear about a few things.

1. Manchester will never ever ever be able to win two in row over Tullahoma.

2. Tullahoma played with heart and passion and Coffee County thought they could just go in there and not play at all and still win.

3. I don't know how Coffee County could've ever been favored to win Region 3-5A, when playing that awful will be lucky to keep them out of last place in that region!

4.  Coffee County, where is your offense in the first half?  Where is your defense in the entire game?  You're bad!  You look awful!  Quit playing like you don't have to try and start treating all of your opponents with respect!  Jeez!  Coffee has some serious maturity issues.

5.  As a Coffee alumn, I must say that losing to a horrible--and when I say horrible that is an understatement--Tullahoma team and probably one of the worst Wildcat teams in history, it is a complete and total embarrassment.

6.  Coffee County fans have no right to bad mouth any other team's fans on their schedule.  Even Warren County could beat Coffee County with Coffee playing that bad.

Think about that.  It really is a shame.  Tullahoma can win the Coffee Pot 14 years in a row and then another six in a row, and Coffee County can even win it two times in a row?  What the heck?  Manchester had the more athletic team and lost?  I'm sorry, there is just something wrong there and it isn't working.

This game should've been close, but Tullahoma should not have won.

Coffee County, you have some serious soul searching to do because if you thought Tullahoma was bad, you ain't seen nothin' yet!  I'll tell you right now that Cumberland County is dang good--good enough to blow Coffee County away next Friday night.  In fact, expect to see the Jets run it all over Coffee's weak defensive front and turn it into a victory of at least three touchdowns.  Cumberland ain't no joke.  They'll hang at least 40 on Coffee County next weekend.  Book it.

This will be my last comment on this subject. I will not judge a program, a coach and his staff, the student body and/or town on the actions of a few. Big games bring out the best and the worst in some people. Without exception, there will always be a few ( some places fewer than others ) who will discredit a town or program. I know good people in both Manchester and Tullahoma. My opinion of them is not going to change just because a couple of kids run their mouth on the football field or some fans are sore loosers or ungreatfull winners.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
