This should be a good game, but i am going for alcoa, they played pretty good against WB rxcept for the penalties, that was just annoying. I don't know much about sweetwater, except for they have a good running back, but so do we. If alcoa can take care of the penalties we can win the game. Only problem is it may be raining but that slows down both teams not just one.

Alcoa 35

Sweetwater 18

As A past player & A Coach & A student of the game ...!!!!! Seems all of you are missing the real facts here.... There will be two posible three keys to winning this game for Sweetwater or Alcoa. Both teams corners will be tested & the team who's corners peform the best will have a leg up on the other team. Second will be the penalties & / Turnovers. The team who holds on to the ball best & has the least amount of mistakes. Will come out on top. Why you say Well because the weapons these two teams have will not be stopped ... Latham will get plenty of yards & Alcoa will prob. through the ball all over the field.

The key may come down to SPECIAL teams & if so I'll go with John Micheal Fox.

He is a GREAT weapon for Sweetwater. Good luck to my CATS.!!!!

I think your wrong, Rockwood has been good several times since 97.  Rockwood and Alcoa played a great game last year in Rockwood.  But Rockwood, Alcoa and Sweetwater all seem to be better than last year.  Should make for an intresting Region race.  Alcoa being to cocky may be their downfall, i'm not saying the players are, but the fans seem to be.  They are a good team, but they can be beat.

I'm not cocky, just confident in my team. Give me a good reason why I should believe that Alcoa won't the region. I just don't see it this year or next!! thumb

As a "third party observer"--who obviously wants Alcoa to do well because of them being a local team here where I live, let me go on record as saying (and you guys can write this down) ... THIS GAME WILL NOT BE CLOSE. If I'm not mistaken, Alcoa defeated Sweetwater twice last year. Well this year's Alcoa team is "last years x 10". A year older, a year more mature, a year stronger... just remember you heard it here. I don't mean to slam Sweetwater, but they won't be able to compete. Sorry.

Hey Budrock, I'll never forget traveling down to Sweetwater sometime in the late 80's / early 90's period when it was huge game that year (not that it wasn't every year) but this particular year both teams were ranked very high. Anyhow, I remember two things ... #1 -Sweetwater's cheerleaders were escorted out on Harley's--carrying the America flag--to do the National Anthem. #2 - Sweetwater's players and coaches got in a big brawl on the field between THEMSELVES after the game. I remember seeing one Sweetwater player punch one of the assistant coaches right in the face !!! What year was that?

The year was 1993. Our team was going to the locker room and then going to shake hands after the emotions had eased. Little Al pushed a receiver out of bounds and headed to the locker room. The Sweetwater team ran on the field and the coaches tried to stop them and brawls started all over the field. Sweetwater went on to win the State Championship. Alcoa also beat Sweetwater in Basketball that year during the season and the cats won the State Tournament in basketball.

I feel like an idiot trying to correct an Abbot on Alcoa trivia ... but I actually think that Little Al intercepted a pass as time expired, ran up the sideline aways, then kind of danced out of bounds to avoid the onrushing Sweetwater guys and they kind of took it the wrong way.

Not sure which generation of Abbot this is ... I'm assuming "Principle" Abbot, but I also remember that young Darby Abbot had visions of riding a Snapper onto the field pre-game later that year when Sweetwater came for playoffs to present the colors. I think you "nipped" that one. True? Or just a rumor?

Mr. Abbott,

I'm not trying to dispute your word or be disrespectful and I'm not sure whether it was an interception or a reception, but I'd be willing to "bet the house" that the way that whole incident set up was that Little Al had the ball, running up the sideline in front of Alcoa's bench as time expired, and at the last minute before the pursuing Sweetwaterians got to him, he danced out of bounds, tossed the ball behind him, and hightailed it toward the locker room with the Sweetwater guys in hot pursuit. It was at this point that Sweetwater's coaching staff ran out to stop their guys and tempers flared.

Check me with Punkie, Coach Webb, or Ronnie P. on this. I was standing right in front of him when he ran out of bounds. He wasn't taunting or trash talking, he was running for his life.

Darby was, and is, one of my favorite kids of all time. His good upbringing was always evident in his life. You've got good reason to be proud. If you're not sure who this is, here's a clue ... I see your daddy now regularly on Sundays and Wednesdays !!!

No disrespect to Sweetwater, because they are a great team, but Alcoa is hands down the best in the region. Last year Alcoa spanked O.S. in the 1/4 finals before running into a dominant Lipscomb team. A year later with all their same players back minus 3 seniors, they are better. To be the best you got to beat the best. In my book ( which matters as much as dirt) Alcoa is the team to beat. I do feel like they should win state...but there are still plenty of games to go and only time will tell if Alcoa will represent Region 2a. Good luck to Sweetwater, believe it or not I am actually pulling for you. Hopefully things will go the wildcats way, but it will take a little luck.
