Hey folks,

Even if the game is, has, or has not passed him by, do not forget what he has accomplished. I am not saying that you are not respecting him; I just want to remind you of what he has done for Tennessee HS football. He is and always will be a coaching legend. Without his drive and determination for perfection, TN HS football would still be turning out limited numbers of D1 players. He is largely responsible for making other teams like MBA and McCallie take their programs to a higher level.

FlyBy, you are right about Flatt and his past accomplishments. His record speaks for itself. But what has he done lately? Have you seen the talent he has on his team? The size? The speed? He should be winning every game. It says something about a coach's stubborness and unwillingness to change if he will not allow his assistants to voice their opinion.

Personally I have a great deal of respect for him but just b/c he has won more games or state championships doesn't mean anything. He can't rest on the laurels of his past. If he is content to just keep getting the silver ball then it's time to hang it up . . . for good!

Needless to say, it's Coach Flatt's job for as long as he wants it. I'm disappointed to see BA's struggles this season, but we've lost to two fine teams and it's certainly not time to panic yet. The last two teams to whom BA has lost in the regular season are Christian Brothers (last year) and McCallie (in 2002). In both seasons the Eagles faced those teams again in the playoffs and avenged their previous defeats -- BA beat CBHS 28-14 in last year's semifinals, and routed McCallie 38-0 in the '02 semis.

Some other stats:

BA has played a team twice in the same season 6 times since 2001. Out of those matchups, the Eagles have lost to the same team both times only once (2001, 10-3 and 17-16 to McCallie).

The last losing streak BA held was in 2001 (losses to McCallie 10-3 and MBA 17-0).

BA is 15-9 in Super Seven play since 2001.

The Eagles are 8-0 against Baylor, 6-1 against Father Ryan, and 7-1 against MUS since the beginning of DII play, with the losses to Ryan and MUS coming in 1997, DII's first year.

A simple history lesson will tell us that all is not lost for Brentwood Academy. Look for things to get better as the season progresses.
